i'm building garret, a free, open-source writing app for novels. it runs locally, works offline and doesn't need an account.
you can organize a book into chapters and scenes, move scenes around on a card board, keep character notes and research alongside the manuscript, and export to markdown, docx or epub. there's a light and dark theme, and english and german UI.

it's an early alpha. i'm looking for a few writers willing to try a small sample book: write two scenes, close and reopen it, then export a copy. did anything get in the way? your OS and the step that caused trouble would help.
the mac builds still need native testing. start with sample writing while you evaluate it. the android preview has fewer features and no import/export or sync; this invitation is for the desktop app.
