Perfect idea. I'll wait for 0.2.5 and the skip function then. Thank you for help and efforts!
One thought regarding this function: Some other VN offer a "skip to version xy" function. Never needed it, so I cant say if it is something others will be happy about. At least in future when you are at 0.5 or whatever, for now with only 0.2 it's no real use for it but maybe later. Might not be much difference to implement the skip function with or without version selection, especially if you know it from the start you want to implement it like this.
You're welcome. I'm happy my interference was helpful.
Since Mass Effect 3, many players know the term "Illusion of Choice", and having bad experience with it. I was also upset there, with this three colored unepic climax. Nowadays I can laught about it, because it was don kind of comically stupid. I guess you would have run amok.
If in a future version of Astreon, we ever come across a choice between a red, green or blue door. We know NoGlory is mocking us (or ME3) now. :-D
Was definetly 0.1 and not 0.1.5. I finished 0.1 on 6 January, but 0.1.5 came out afterwards and was just a rewrite. So i didn't bother to replay it (just a few days later). And i store the played version as comment in my collection, so I know in the future where i need to continue. But good to know that 0.1 saves are not compatible. I suggest you write a big hint in your frontpage for other poor souls like me. ;-)
Hello there. A third party is joining the conversation. ;-)
I can agree with damalon, various seemingly important choices feels to be superficial or with minimal effect. My personal option is, that this isn't something bad but a perfect example of "illusion of choice", something necessary in game development, also in Triple-A-Games. So maybe with that in mind, we can all agree and appreciate what we get here for free. Made by someone within hundredths of hours of free time.
And I think damalon made clear, he likes the game in general and this is just his personal quirk, where he dislike this "illusion of choice" stuff and he is aware about this personal preference. So NoGlory, don't be disheartened about it, you can be proud of what you created.
Finally, a suggestion or my thought about this topic: Some other AVNs offer a "story mode" option, where all choices are made automatically. This might be easy to implement, as you just need to define a default choice everywhere, choosen if the "story mode" is active or displaying the selection as it is now if in "normal mode". I think this is something people like damalon would like, and you would be able to implement.
So for, thats my 2 cent. Have a nice day guys!
Hi NoGlory, thanks for quick reply. Looks like I'm not the only one with the issue: https://itch.io/post/12696784 If there is anything I can do to help you debugging, please let me know. I've uploaded my save from version 0.1 (where it says to save now - see screenshot) at: https://gofile.io/d/u0zKtQ
And by the way, i really liked your story and appreciate your adult characters and setting. No cliche Story. And your dedication and efforts to little details like making so many renders for every moving scene is also worth mentioning.
Looks like I'm not the only one. Details see: https://itch.io/post/12691422
Hi, I've a few problems with the new 0.2 PC release. Am I the only one?
First, when loading any save from 0.1 (tried with "save now" end, and other saves), I get a missing PNG-Error (Full Traceback omitted):
While loading <renpy.display.im.Image object ('gui/GALLERY0.png') at 0x000000000c185190>:
File "renpy/common/00action_file.rpy", line 499, in __call__
renpy.load(fn)
Exception: Couldn't find a place to stop rolling back. Perhaps the script changed in an incompatible way?
Second, when placing a blank PNG in the folder, the Error changes a little:
While running game code: File "renpy/common/00action_file.rpy", line 499, in __call__ renpy.load(fn) Exception: Couldn't find a place to stop rolling back. Perhaps the script changed in an incompatible way?Third, I tried a new game with intention to skip through. But while meeting Anya and Olivia (first time in bar after Anyas BJ) I get a new Error when Anya is talking with her twin:
While running game code: Exception: Sayer 'cc' is not defined. -- Full Traceback ------------------------------------------------------------ Full traceback: File "script.rpyc", line 2186, in scriptIs ignoreable as "cc" doesn't say much. But so many Errors just at the start is a little demoralizing. Who knows what else might come up.
Can anybody acknowledge or deny my problems with his version?
