Congratulations on 3rd place, very well deserved!!!!

Really gorgeous art, and love the progressively uneasy atmosphere lol. I found the pumpkin mini game quite hard, I played through twice and could only ever get the eyes right consistently. Uncovering the plot was good fun.  As others have said the level of polish is crazy! Thanks for sharing your game!!

I really love the art of this and the intro scene was great!! It's super cute. Regrettably my mama did not make it. I found the repetitive clicking a bit rough, and I didn't even realise the spell building was a mechanic until looking at this comment section, so a tutorial could be helpful to give more pointers. Thanks for sharing your game!!

Very cool, I love the way different leaf types get translated into the geometric shapes! The autumnal palette is beautiful. I found it pretty hard, managed to get 1250. Main struggle is getting the little triangles to go where you want them to. Thanks for sharing your game!!

(1 edit)

Maybe I've just had a tiring week but this is so absorbing and relaxing! As many others have said the autoclicker is a godsend and it's also really nice to leave on in the background while doing other tasks. The little grannies are so cute that I almost forget that I'm ruling over them with an iron fist lol. I can imagine a full release of something like this being really popular, especially if it incorporated some kind of pomodoro timer so people can use it as a concentration aid. Thanks for sharing your game! edit: I want to add after playing a bit longer that I don't love the ability to skip time, I feel like it makes the experience lose some of it's cosyness and just feel like a numbers game, so that's my one major criticism.

Very beautiful audio and visuals in this one! I like seeing the different weather conditions, and collecting all the little ingredients is satisfying, but would love to see a bit more gameplay depth. As I think others have suggested, it would be nice if the potion-making aspect was expanded on so it feels like the game gets tied up in a satisfying way.  Thanks for sharing your project!

You're so right 😌🙏🧛‍♂️🧛‍♂️🧛‍♂️🧛‍♂️🧛‍♂️🧛‍♂️🧛‍♂️

Thanks so much! And yea the intro was an interesting challenge with Pico's limitations, so I'm glad you think it looks cool!

Thanks for checking it out!! The rules with the blood are just that any vamp with blood on their face should be rejected in level 2 and 3.

This game is one of the most visually beautiful I've seen on this jam, I love the art and the character designs, and the opening comic is really cool. However, same as others I found it way too difficult and I didn't manage to get past the snail. I did like how the snail telegraphed it's direction by facing the way it was about to go, but I still really struggled to land hits on it without getting hurt myself. Thanks for sharing your game!

Glad you liked it! And yes I'm really proud of how the character sprites came out, all the vamps are made from a bunch of smaller sprites and shapes that get put together. Thanks so much for checking it out!

I really love the character sprites and the art style! However I found the fishing too confusing and I didn't manage to catch any succesfully - wasn't sure what the noise I was meant to be listening out for was? I also love the little band stage and the idea of being able to kind of customise your own backing music for playing the game. I had some issues with the sounds being very crackly and unpleasant to listen to, but I haven't seen anyone else mention this so it might be a problem at my end. Thanks for sharing your game!

This looks lovely and is right up my alley because I find long drives very relaxing. Main crit is it's way too easy to fall off the world, especially when reversing. I kept missing the turn, reversing slightly and then falling off the world (I'm assuming the world is being deleted behind me but it's perhaps disappearing a bit fast). The experience of being in a car plummeting through starry space also kind of rules though so I can't complain. I love having the cat in the car, audio-wise it would also be really fun having radio stations you could switch between with different chill music. Would definitely love to play a more developed version of this concept. Thanks for sharing your project!

What happens in 1466 stays in 1466 lmao. And yes I do really recommend checking out Pico, I've learned so much from using it. Thanks so much for playing!

I really liked this one, a big fan of the kind of cute but also eerie surreal energy lol. The music is very strange (in a good way), and I love this interpretation of the dialogue being incomprehensible.  Similar to some other commenters I had trouble with the chase. I did get to the end but the second section of the chase nearly made me give up. Some glitches I experienced were that the monster got stuck in a wall or behind boxes a couple of times. (I went back to get him 🙂) And in the menu the UI noises played continuously when I selected something, creating a kind of white noise. A unique and interesting experience overall! I chose leaf!!! Thanks for sharing your project!

This is really gorgeous and the level of polish is amazing. The reflections in the water are especially beautiful. Everything just comes together to create a lovely atmosphere. My minor criticisms are that I didn't realise the camera could move so I thought I couldn't beat the game when I ran out of space so I restarted the game for more efficient tree placement lol. (my fault for missing controls in description) This might be just me but I would like if there were slight constraints to encourage a bit of satisfying strategy in the vein of something like Terra Nil. But I may be trying to apply gameplay to an experience that doesn't really need it because I had a lovely time regardless. I agree with others that it could be a release as it is. Thanks for sharing your game!!

Thanks so much for checking it out!! And I agree, unfortunately the pico-8 sprite sheet is tiny lol so I had to be very selective with what art to include. But that was a fun part of the challenge!

Thank you, and yes I'm considering possibly making a longer or infinite version after this! I get what you mean re: the forsaken ones, I mainly added them in to give a bit of extra variety and flavour to the game so that's why they don't have a huge amount of depth. If I were to make a longer version I would probably do more with them. There is a slight change to the ending if you make a different choice though. 👀 Thanks so much for playing!!

Thanks so much!!!

Thank you!!!

Thanks so much, we both did well! And I'm happy you liked the art, the randomised vampires were definitely the thing I was most proud of in the end. Glad to see the Orlok-hating community is alive and well in this comment section. 😤

Super impressed by the visual style and character designs in this, gorgeous stuff, but found some things frustrating/counter-intuitive. The timer for the days is so short that everything feels kind of rushy, but then it's impossible to actually move around quickly because of things falling out of the backpack. I thought the backpack thing was very cute in theory and a nice visual, but could do with being slightly less sensitive, or not combined with a very short timer. I was also confused by the treehouse navigation as some others were, and when I saw the buy signs in each characters room I thought they were buying those items off me in return for acorns until reading comments here. So I was wondering why they wouldn't take my stuff lol. Anyway I think basically this game could have a more gentle pace and more tutorials, because it feels like there's a lot to take in in a very short time. The world is so adorable and pretty and nicely themed, but I didn't feel like I had space to appreciate it fully. Regardless, this is still an incredible achievement for three weeks. Thank you for sharing your game!!

Love this concept and how it incorporates the no winning/losing limitation. Watching the tree grow is very satisfying especially the lush leaves. Would really like some music/sfx - Music that also changes a bit based on the traits of the tree would be very cool. Another minor criticism is that I don't feel like the style of the tree and background match the style of the UI. Like the UI looks very natural autumnal colours, whereas everything else is more surreal pastel/neon colours. Thanks for sharing your project!

Absolutely loved the art on this, especially the character designs are so cute and appealing. The soft texture of everything is so nice. Some crits are that I feel like a recipe book or a tutorial would have helped because it was quite confusing at first (although I did find it satisfying when I figured out how to make everything lol. So even if the tutorial was telling you you need to figure stuff out yourself based on the images and what the customers say, that could work fine and the player won't feel like they're missing something. ) I also had a bit of a glitch where the character sprites seem to be appearing in front of the counter rather than behind it. Thanks for sharing your game!

Visually gorgeous and I love how so much autumnal imagery got brought in! The design of the main little guy is so cute. I really like the music and the sound, but for me the music would stop when I'd been in an area for a while so I don't know if there's an issue with the looping. Other minor issues others have already brought up, I found the hedgehog quest mildly frustrating, pushing the leaves around felt quite awkward and fiddly. And when I finished the mushroom quest I went back to the main tree only for the tree to say I hadn't completed the mushroom quest, and I realised I needed to talk to the little mushroom cluster to trigger that it was complete. But yea these are minor issues, this was super lovely!

Fun submission, the opening and ending comics are absolutely gorgeous and the character sprites are so cute. I had the same issue as another commenter of missing the first mailbox, so perhaps that needs to be signposted a bit more. I'd also like if the game was a bit less linear but it was a super cute experience overall! Thanks for sharing your game!

Gorgeous aesthetics and music, would love to play a longer version of this! A previous comment has already said this and I agree - the dialogue/text noise is quite harsh and loud. I know this is a small demo but I'd also love if the animals were more spread out to give a bigger world/exploration feeling. Overall though the vibes are beautiful. Thanks for sharing your project!

Ah that's really frustrating, I also had some last minute issues on mine 😅But yea don't be put off from adding a bit of gentle difficulty, because I think challenge can be the thing that makes a game absorbing and relaxing!

Hell yea, really glad you found it enjoying and satisfying to play! Thank you so much for checking it out (and if you ever feel like revisiting, it's also possible to get an S rank 😉)

The feel of this was really nice and I got all the recipes except one! The artwork of the food and the ingredients is especially nice! I feel like there could have been a smidge more challenge/conflict, and a little bit of animation and UI sounds would go a long way if you wanted to take this idea further. Thank you for sharing your game!!

Very cool! I love the muted pastel palette and the way resources were presented like little cards that overlap to interact. I got all of the flowers except one which I couldn't figure out. The opening was also very fun. I loved when you could see the folds disappearing until his brain became smooth lmao. Agree with others that some sound would be good and that a tutorial would help because I was a bit confused initially. Thanks for sharing your game!!

Aaah it's such an honor to hear ppl say it's a favourite! Really glad you appreciated the muffled music, I was going for that feel of standing outside a nightclub in the rain. And also glad you enjoyed the cryptic bits of lore ahahah. Thanks again for playing, will check out your game asap!

Thanks so much <3 and yes pico is great, I've learnt so much using it!

Check out my game Cool Sexy Vampires! https://hongusdev.itch.io/cool-sexy-vampires

It's a Paper's, Please-inspired game with vampires! (and some other little surprises) 👀

Am really enjoying gradually working through everyone's submissions!

I think more of a tutorial would be helpful in this one. I like the premise of making potions for animals but I feel like I'm never sure what I'm trying to achieve so I'm just guessing. I'd also like if the visuals were more cohesive. I really like how the background has a photobash kind of feel, but none of the ingredient assets match that style. The thing of the squirrels screaming and vanishing when you gave them the wrong potion was very freaky so I enjoyed that lol. Thanks for sharing your game!

I couldn't get close to that score with many tries after, so it might have been a fluke lol. Anyway you're very welcome, it's one of my favourites I've checked out so far!

Thank you, I'm glad you liked the intro! It was an interesting challenge with the limitations of Pico-8 👀

Thank you for checking it out, I'm really glad you liked it! I was going for simple gameplay that has just enough challenge to keep you hooked, so it's exciting that you found it addictive!

Don't worry it didn't ruin the experience for me, the ambience was already really strong with all the artwork, sfx and character interactions. The audio cracking might have been an issue at my end because I think it happened after I minimised the window to do something else then opened it up again. Anyway regardless this has been one of my favourite games so far!

Love a weird little experience like this. The chunky pixel art is very appealing and I wasn't expecting a haunting emotional ending lol. Thanks for sharing your game!
