Wow that made me feel things. Quite an experience. I apparently can't make up my mind according to my ending!

I actually didn't like the reeling mechanic personally, but I kept playing and even beat a round just because I was so intrigued to see what each fish had to say and the possible ending I could get. Great game design and writing, kept me hooked!(pun intended!)

Definitely topping the list for most creative interpretation so far! I'm curious as to what more you were going to add, it feels like a complete mini-game! Was it a timer? That would have been cool!

Haha! Having a mascot really gives your game some identity right away! This one stands out for me just for that! Great work keeping your scope tight, the polish is exceptional! My favorite is the clicking of the reel, really was a nice touch! A little simplistic for my tastes, wish there was more of a challenge but I still enjoyed it anyway. Good game!

Very simple and straightforward! No bugs I ran into, which makes this a great skeleton to work from! Nicely done.

I'm with Haufhaundonkey on this one, this game had AMAZING fighting feel! Best feel out of any of the games I played so far. It was a little tough trying to figure out how to actually catch a fish. I got close a few times but in the end I was defeated by the space fish!

Other than that, very creative take on the theme! Space fishing, so cool!

Lol I made the mistake of investing in fish bait right away the first go around and lost all my money!

Second time around I had a lot better luck with the ball bait, that was pretty chill.

Then I bought the worm bait and it didn't seem to attract any fish and the hook kept sinking to the bottom of the pond, it got a stuck. I tried playing a few more times after that I kept running into this issue of getting stuck between objects.

Critique on the game scene: There's a lot of clutter with the decorations. It makes it hard to tell exactly what's going on in most of the pond, since you made the water clear I figured you wanted to expressly let the player watch the fish get caught. Which I personally enjoyed, even if it was a little glitchy.

I couldn't tell what the weights did exactly. I tried switching between them but the bobber seems to either stay on the surface of the water or drop to the very bottom.

I also couldn't really tell how strong the fish were, I know you mentioned to watch the rod but my immediate reaction(which seems to have worked mostly) was to just pull back as far as possible and just hold right click.

The feel: I really like how you did the casting mechanic. I was enjoying just seeing how far I could cast a line, it was satisfying, the sound FX was good juice too! Good work!

Thanks! Take the inspo and run with it! I'd love to see what you do with it!

Apologies for the INSANE difficulty! Even I have trouble actually catching a fish and I made the thing!

Which part of the controls were unresponsive? Just the slack?

Slack definitely shouldn't be doing that, in the code it just allows the fish to move at half speed and reduces the line tension quickly, I'll look into it anyway!

I'm not sure if I mentioned it in the tutorial, but tension does increase passively and if you ever hit the WRONG BUTTON, tension does jump pretty dramatically. I think I had it set to like an additional 8-12% tension increase for each time you don't match the prompt(pretty brutal in hindsight), so it's possible maybe tension snapped if either your finger slipped and maybe pressed X(I never programmed a way to ignore other buttons that aren't used in the game) or you pressed it just at the split second the prompt switched?

Like I said I'll look into it, but I don't want to edit the game during the rating period so maybe afterwards! Just a prototype after all.

AMAZING UPDATE!

Reading about the stories from the bulletin and the artwork at the end really got me right in my feels! It's crazy how much little things can mean so much to someone. Super cozy!

I also really liked the decision to have items glow when you pick them up too, it was a nice bit of juice to get feedback on picking something up besides just seeing a number change. And the decision to include artwork at the end really made it feel like a complete game. Nice work!

Rock on!  Add me on Discord: go.roque

I'm definitely going to be joining the Comfy Jam: Spring so we can collab on that one if you're down. Otherwise, as long as it doesn't conflict with that jam, I'm down, let me know!

Oh! I should mention I have my discord set to mute usually, if I don't respond right away you can just reply to this message. I hop onto itch.io daily.

Hey sleepytreefrog, added an extra dimension(literally) to your gamedev toolbox I see! Nice choice in assets, loving the vibe! The movement feels perfect too, not too slow, not too fast, just right. Can't wait to see what it turns into in part two of the game jam you joined!

PS: Let me know if you'd wanna team up for the next part of your jam, or whenever really!

Why was I so scared to get toasted?! xD
Super fun! Would have been better if my mouse stayed inside the screen, ran into a bug where my mouse could slide out. Great game otherwise, good work!

I have a complaint, why can't I give 10 stars? Dude that was incredible! Great freaking work! Love your music choice by the way, I spent way too long on the main menu afraid that the music would stop if I started playing. Perfect murder music!

c00l art style, plz don't do politics!

Thanks for the honest feedback bro! You're RIGHT! Nobody reads the description, that's for losers! From now on, on-screen directions will mandatory in ALL my games!

Glad you still managed to enjoy it, I hope to fix it up just a tiny bit when the jam is over. Things like fixing the bug and adding a texture to the dough & bullets. Maybe increasing difficulty?

Adorable artwork! Some of the best I've seen in this jam so far! Nicely done!

Amazing work! Great art, music and writing! Good work!

P.S: What IS up with Zeus' exes?

Okay guys pro tip: 'shake' your mouse to re-angle your own ice cube, if you overshoot it, get away from the laser and shake your ice back into place! And go for damage first, it's your best bet!

I LOVE the use of reflection here! Such a great mechanic! And power ups made the game loop great!\

Like others said though, that starting life is pretty low!

I actually really enjoy how slippery the ice cube was to control! I get that it could be confusing though, and it does feel a little intuitive. If you could somehow keep the slipperiness but increase intuitiveness I think it would be awesome! Great game!

HOLY COW SANTA CALM DOWN IT'S JUST A SNOWBALL FIGHT!
First 10v10 my team decimates the enemy team until only Santa was alive and he DESTROYED my entire team xD
This has my top rating for Enjoyment for sure, top work mateustormes!

OMG! Top presentation rating for the adorable art! Animal Crossing inspiration? If so, nailed it! Perfect for comfiness! Music was calming too! And the game played a bit so don't beat yourself up about it! Only critique I have is that the you don't need two sound effects for changing scenes, the door sound effect was enough.

Phone is acting up, but I'm joined and I can be reached within this topic until then. I'll figure out the discord thing later but I wanted to let the organizer know I'm making a game for the jam(if I make it in time, that deadline is TIGHT!)

There is something here! It needs some juice but this has great potential! It gave me an idea actually, good work!
Great job on the idle animation, I couldn't figure that one out myself!

As the resident weirdo, I actually really enjoyed the weird controls! Felt like the game was challenging me, I took it as a feature rather than a bug! Great work!

Fantastic game loop! I'm a sucker for any fishing game and the I really appreciated the mechanic in this one, good work!

Thanks! I saw your game, it made me smile! And yeah, I guess we're officially both game developers! CELEBRATION! *POPS PARTY POPPER*

Thanks PizzaMan! That was actually suppose to be the end believe it or not! xD
Had no time to actually add the "THE END" text, I really just beat the buzzer!

Love your sense of style and writing, kill it at University and please come back! You got me hyped and now I can't wait for the sequel!

I suggest that itch.io expand it's current 5-star rating system into the multi-criteria rating system usually used in Game Jams:

  • Gameplay/Mechanics
  • Visuals/Art Style
  • Narrative/Writing
  • Audio/Sound Design
  • Or anything similar.

I believe many users(myself included) feel a sort of 'rating anxiety'. In the current 5-star system, anything below a 4-star can feel punishing to the developer even if only one aspect of the game was lacking while another part was peak. This leads to many users skipping rating a game entirely rather than leave an honest, lower score.

SOLUTION: Allow developers to enable "Optional Granular Categories" for their game's page. This would encourage specificity for game rating. Where I may give a game 5 stars for Art but 3 stars for gameplay which lets me sing the praises of the artist without falsely claiming the game is a masterpiece in every area.

This should also allow for an optional overall rating. Let users choose to leave these specific ratings WITHOUT having to provide a single overall score that affects the site's main search ranking to allow for a more gentle constructive feedback to help devs grow without burying their game in the algorithm.

Thanks for hearing me out, hope you consider the idea!
