Hi everyone!

I've just released Tiny5 on itch.io: a family of compact 5-pixel variable fonts inspired by the graphing calculators and pocket gadgets of the 1980s and 90s.

The family has two members that share the same letterforms, axes, and character set:

  • Tiny5 has one-pixel-wide strokes. It's the text face, meant for body copy and dense readouts.
  • Tiny5 Duo doubles the vertical stems for a heavier look. It works well for titles, headings, HUDs, labels, and buttons.

Six variable axes: Weight, Width, Italic, Roundness, Bleed, and Jitter. You can go from crisp geometric shapes and sharp LCD edges to a soft CRT glow or dot-matrix ink spread.

Language support: Latin, Greek, Cyrillic, and Armenian, covering 974 languages with 1,771 glyphs.

Good for:

  • Pixel art and lo-fi games
  • Terminal-style interfaces and embedded systems
  • Micro-typography in UI/UX
  • Branding with an 8/16-bit or vintage electronics feel

Tip: For pixel-perfect results, set the font size in increments of 6 pt (8 px).

Tiny5 is name your own price on itch.io and is also available on Google Fonts. The source is on GitHub if you'd like to contribute.

If you use it in a project, I'd love to see it!

Great project! And nice to see Tiny5 around!

BTW, Tiny5 2.0 is about to be released.
