Just wish there was an ending

I totally agree! With more time, I would have loved to add some kind of boss battles instead of just having the offerings every 10 floors. Or just more stuff that changes up the mechanics as you play longer. If you get the right items, it’s pretty easy to steamroll things and rack up a ton of money.

I ended up spending an entire day just on the tutorial, UI polish, trying to make the mechanics as legible as possible, stuff like that. It left me with less time to add new mechanics.

Thank you! Getting the tutorialization right was important for me, in particular because I prefer to have all the information you need to play within the game itself when possible. That can be hard under jam conditions where you’re just trying to make the game work within the deadline. (I did include text on the game page this time around as a just-in-case. Some of the mechanics are perhaps under-explained in the game itself.)

With more time (and maybe higher fidelity graphics), I would have done more to emphasize the Jacks as the “special” cards, just to really drive the point home for the player. The main affordances I added were using unique colors for each suit, and changing the color of the left bower when you’re selecting a suit. This makes it easier to see at a glance how many trump cards you’ll have depending on the aura you select.

Hello! My submission for 7DRL 2024 is about finished. Dundledorf’s Castle is a small-scale roguelike with horror themes, drawing inspiration from the games Haunted House and 868-HACK.
