Hi there!
We are a small retro development duo based in Seville and Malaga (Spain). After creating a few games for Spectrum and Mega Drive, and while we continue working on our main project, The Weave, we wanted to create a special Christmas and New Year greeting for the holidays in the form of three minigames for the Sega Mega Drive/Genesis: Sleigh Chase.

What makes this project unique is that it was programmed entirely using OpenAI’s Codex, making it—to the best of our knowledge—the first 16-bit console game with code fully generated by AI. The only handcrafted part is the music, composed by Haddhar.
You can download the game on our Itch page, and the full source code and assets are available on GitHub (the project is completely open source): https://github.com/Ganso/Sleigh-Chase
I have also prepared a detailed post explaining the development process and the tools I used, as a contribution to the community for anyone interested in replicating our work (only available in Spanish by now): https://geese-bumps.itch.io/sleigh-chase/devlog/1151152/creando-sleigh-chase-desarrollo-para-mega-drive-acelerado-con-ia
Regards!
Hi! Sorry I dind’t see your comment!
If you want to work with us in the project, just write me to javi (at) ganso.org
By now I don’t think I need help with the code, although I’m still working in the engine, but if you can design characters or backgrounds in aseprite, it would be great if you could help us.
Thanks!
