Once you get the hang of flying your ship when gravity is in play, it's relatively easy to predict the slingshot so you can whip past the sun's gravity before getting sucked into it. But if you're traveling too quickly, there might not be enough time to adjust your heading and you'll get sucked right in.
To Play: https://ftl-games.itch.io/space-wars
Two ships. One star. Two minutes.
Space Wars is a Newtonian dogfight rebuilt from the 1977 arcade duel. Thrust is a decision. Let go and you keep going. The star in the center can pull you into orbit, shove you away, or swallow you whole.
A hit to the heart of a ship destroys it. A hit on the bow or the stern shears that end away. You can survive one scar on each end. The next hit there breaks the ship. A damaged bow fires slower. A damaged stern burns less thrust. Any scar makes the ship turn like it is dragging a wreck.
Meteors smash straight through. Big ones split. Shots bend in the gravity well. Hyperspace is a last escape, and it does not always bring you back somewhere safe.
Play alone against the other ship, or press 2 Player Online Battle. One player gets the wedge ship, the other gets the saucer ship. First to the higher kill count when the clock runs out earns the bragging rights.
