Chills...
Wishlisted. Can't wait to see what you do with this.
There wouldn't be the same problem (strictly looking at the UK age verification) if the UK Government had implemented a robust, secure system that online companies could use to verify the age of UK users. It would then be the UK Government's responsibility to secure and curate their citizens online presence. That would have been a shambolic mess that would have cost ten times estimates and never been implemented, but it would have been the right approach. The bulk of the cost to verify as an adult would occur once and could, in fact, be automatic.
Instead they threw the problem to each and every individual website, likely numbering in the hundreds of thousands, to implement their own solution increasing the cost by an ever-growing magnitude as new websites appear and old ones go away. This is blatantly anti-competitive, because large websites can afford to do this, while new or smaller websites or companies can't. Worse, having so many different third party age verification processes involved is going to be a scammers' paradise.
And I know people will say they don't trust the Government with that kind of information, but the Govt already has your passport, driving licence, National Insurance etc. etc. information. And your ISP has everything else.
To be fair I use 7zip and I've had some compressed files decompress without the folder structure, so all the files are in the top folder.
What fixed that for me was double-clicking the compressed file, which should show you the top folder, right click that and "Copy", then create a new folder somewhere in your Documents, go into it and right click "Paste". It should decompress and copy the contents of the compressed file over to the new folder with the correct file structure.
But to be clear, I have no idea if that'll work for you, or why you're having a problem.
I wish I had something specific to give you but I haven't been able to get anywhere in the game. Initially I went through the New Game start up, did God Selection, started the Flowers in the Mist and after the preamble got a black screen. Closed the game, did a Quickstart, got to the map, moved to the graveyard but after the message nothing I click on the screen does anything. Closed, restarted, another quickstart. Return Home, got letter. +3 funds. It looks like "May as well make use of it" is something to click but neither it or journal, the only other thing that looks clickable, do anything except make a squelchy sound. I even plugged in another mouse, tried hitting enter (get the squelch sound) and space and pretty much every key on the keyboard. Nowt.
Is there some trick to screen navigation?
Oh, running it through the itch launcher if that makes a difference. Hmm. Might try a direct install.... and I did and a couple of extra clicks here and there and ran into the same problem.
"For those who'd rather have their right hand free"
Lol. Pretty sure I've been wanking left-handed since I got a mouse and that was back when porn was ASCII or you were prepared to wait 20 minutes for a grainy "Page 3" photo to download. Good times!
Congrats on the Steam release! Kinda wishing I'd bought it here with the patch faff but no biggy.
On PC the default textbox is REALLY dark, hiding a lot of the "action". If you're feeling brave look for the textbox.png file in the GUI folder, copy it for safety then open with GIMP or your editor of choice and change the opacity. In GIMP this is in the layer menu - wind it down to about 20% or so then export the file as textbox.png again. If you export to a different folder, copy it back to where the original was installed, overwriting it (remember to make that backup just in case!)
I'm not one to comment on abandoned games, but it was kinda annoying me so I did a Google. Hopefully it helps anyone else who finds this game.
A lot of the old school Japanese Visual Novels had censored releases on Steam, with wide availability of uncensored patches, released with a wink and a nod. It let them release on Steam (and elsewhere) but people buying the game knew they could have it uncensored if they wanted.
So just turn Alice into a Golden Retriever on Steam and have a patch. People like dogs, you might sell even more that way. Wait, make Alice, Chloe's bewildered granny. People like GILFs, you might sell even more that way.
