Yes I had the same  problem with the hourglass. That is why I found another solution.

What if chess and rugby became one game?

In Chess Rugby, classic chess pieces move as usual, but one of them carries the ball. Pass it, steal it, and score tries on your opponent’s back row to earn points.

•  Chess movement + rugby scoring
• 2 halves of 40 minutes, just like a real match
• 1 minute per turn — play fast or lose points!
• Score 7 points for a converted try, 5 for a try, 3 for penalty kick

All you need is a chessboard, a timer, a sandglass, and a small token for the ball.
