Nice job with the visuals. The 2-frame animation adds a nice touch and is something I wish that my game had. I also like the shadows you added which I also wish I had put into my game.

The mission itself reminds of the "escort the scientist" missions from XCOM. I was able to take out the enemies and escort the hostage to the red car. However, I was able to do so all in 1 turn by moving and attacking repeatedly without ending my turn, so it was a bit trivial. A little fix though that would make this a great mission.

Great job! I think that it has a lot of potential. The idea of rescuing characters as the difficulty increases sounds fun and unique. Each match could have different characters to rescue so that each match is different -- and/or the order in which you save them.

The idea you have about the camera following the action is spot on. You could make the transitions smooth but quick to give it a sense of urgency, giving it that arcade feel.

I agree with the others. I prefer the latter option.

I tried to do the last moment submission as well. After checking around, I assume my issue with my submission was that I left my project visibility as Draft, instead of making it Public so when I tried to select it for submission there was nothing there. My own fault.

The visual of your game looks very nice! I like the graphics of it based on your other post.

I'm only seeing 1 submission for this game jam. Is it showing wrong on my end, or were others encountering an issue when trying to submit their game (like me)? I'm new to itch.io so I can't tell what happened.
