Quick update: GIF Pal has been updated on Steam to v2.0, and the itch.io build is now a free demo so you can try the basic concept before deciding on the full version. 

What's in the Steam v2.0 release

Windows 10/11 compatibility

• Proper DPI scaling so the interface and snap zones work correctly at different display settings (100–200%).
• Multi-monitor support, including secondary screens with negative coordinates.

Better window tracking and performance

• Improved handling of virtual desktops and minimized windows.
• Performance optimizations to reduce unnecessary checks.

Interface redesign and new features

• I spent a lot of time cleaning up the UI so common actions are easier to find and the layout makes more sense.
• Background removal tools with adjustable tolerance for GIFs.
• Snap pets to windows and screen edges.
• Outline color/thickness controls and transparency adjustments.
• Theme system with hue slider and light/dark modes.
• Optional "Drunk Mode" trail effect and per-GIF particle system.

About this itch.io build:

This version remains a free demo focused on the basic desktop pet idea. If you want the interface improvements and extra tools listed above (background removal, snapping, themes, particles, etc.), the Steam version has those features and will continue receiving updates. Hello, I've just released GIF Pal on itch.io - a desktop companion that displays animated GIFs on your screen.

What it does:

GIF Pal is a desktop GIF player and customization tool. Load any GIF file and display it on your desktop with full control over its appearance. You can:

• Adjust size and zoom - scale your GIF from 25% to 200%
• Remove backgrounds - convert video files to transparent GIFs using built-in background removal
• Add colored outlines - customize border colors and thickness for visibility
• Control transparency - adjust opacity levels
• Click-through mode - let clicks pass through the window
• Multi-GIF management - switch between multiple GIFs with next/previous controls
• Screen edge snapping - automatically snap to screen edges with visual feedback
• Convert videos to GIFs - built-in video-to-GIF converter with quality/FPS settings

The app runs as a floating window that stays on top of other applications, letting you personalize your workspace with animated content.

The project is in early development. Some features are still being built, and you might run into bugs or incomplete functionality. I'm actively working on updates and improvements based on user feedback, so if you give it a try and have thoughts, I'd genuinely appreciate hearing them.
