It's not a virus, it will be a false positive. It happens to a lot of indie games.

kind of had an inkling of what was going down fairly early on but, like jonas, i wanted to believe i was mistaken haha
i really like your writing, it's so evocative... there's a really nice blend of pretty dream-like prose, more light-hearted comedic moments, and some more vulgar moments which all manage to feel cohesive. the large amount of literary references is fun too, it might be because i just finished reading this but it reminded me just a little of the drowning girl by caitlin kiernan maybe crossed over with some ryu murakami for the more violent and depraved moments
i happen to like pretty language and depravity so it's always fun to see them combined like this, especially in a story which treats its dark subject matter with so much tact. i feel like there's a lot of depth here, which is nice since i am sick and tired of vns and anime-adjacent media utilising the very uncomfortable trope of [redacted] and then refusing to address any of the damage it can cause (or even like as a baseline admitting it's not socially acceptable lol) and treating it as idk a fun cutesy romp. like whhhhy even utilise such a relationship in a fictional story if you don't want to explore it with any degree of nuance for like 2 seconds, i wish more stories would treat these sorts of topics with a degree of seriousness.
uhh i think some of the VERY LOUD sound effects are overkill and i'm not a fan of jumpscares in general but i still liked this a lot. the writing is impeccable, i even enjoyed all the french extracts of lazare's novel though i speak not a lick of french since it gives the story a more authentic 20th century~ish vibe. i know a lot of classical authors stuck long passages of latin or french or german in their stories without providing a translation, it felt quite true to that haha
it was a really interesting vn, i think the writing especially is captivating... thank you for creating it!
Thank you, that's very kind of you 🙏
I also reported these obvious troll reviews to Steam for harassment but Steam didn't do anything about them, so I doubt that they care. I think that all the negative reviews for UiL Fragments on Steam were left by people wanting to hate on a free LGBT game except the one you mentioned, it's kind of depressing.
Oh well, I will keep on telling the stories I want to tell regardless. I appreciate all of your kind comments too, it means a lot ❤️
thank u i'm glad you liked it!
for this vn in particular, the artist popped up on my twitter tl randomly cause she did some fanservicey art of rance from the rance series haha, and i liked her style so much i thought "i need to hire this person to illustrate a bl vn for me"
the artist also draws and writes her own bl vns, you can find them here!
junya is very obviously and deliberately misogynistic. i know the things he says about his former boss are unpleasant because i wrote the dialogue that way on purpose.
i think it's pretty realistic for certain types of men to say/think awful things about women (especially women in positions of power like miss makinohara), and renji is 100% complicit in this misogyny for not speaking up about it. it's intentional.
renji is a young child in the flashback and he's repeating a lot of standard "men like x women like y" gender role stuff because this is what he's been exposed to. i don't think it's unusual for children to uncritically parrot things like this they might have heard parents or teachers say + the rest of the story is about an adult renji thinking "hmm maybe those things i believed to be unshakable truths as a young boy were inaccurate."
ofc i understand if reading these sentiments is uncomfortable or upsetting, so please don't force yourself to read the story if you don't want to. you should prioritise yourself!
leben is such a fascinating character, i love seeing a cute seemingly good-natured girl go through such a metamorphosis in such a short wordcount while feeling so believable and realistic
this vn is short but says a lot, love all the symbolism with the ticking clocks, the use of sound/silence, really liked the one sequence where the vn is completely silent save for that uncomfortable cracking sfx which plays on and on and managed to get under my skin, it was really good at highlighting the violence of the scene and it felt so raw in a way i've not felt from other vns
i liked both endings too, they work well with one another and the good end adds a lot of context to the bad end. feels like a very well thought out and nicely coneptualised story
also random comment but i like the font used a lot too, it's very cute haha
random but i rly like the huge ribbon miss epc markswoman is wearing, it's a rly fun cute detail which stands out since the rest of her outfit seems pretty standard military and the aesthetic + general tone of the whole vn is so dark, it's very gap moe
the chara designs + the general aesthetic (filtered photo bgs, strong use of green + magenta, the cut-ins with the discharge forms which speed up towards the end) are all rly good, this is such a stylish vn
love the ambience too the sound effects picked out are great
thank you! i originally envisioned this story being set in the uk so i was going to reference a lot of britpop like blur, pulp, the verve, and oasis, but i had to change it up a bit b/c of the different setting...
oasis still got a shoutout though because they're special ig haha
i'm glad you liked it!
ooh i love cherrys expressions he has so many good ones... love your art style in general, it's so charming nd has so much character, it's very stylish. the charas all seem interesting so far, i think i prefer kirin atm since olive is kinda intense (though i feel bad for him hahaha) and i didn't rly hang out w juno that much
the demo had so much art in it and has such a nice vibe, i hope work on the full release goes smoothly!
really enjoyed the first two acts, both charas have such strong personalities and they feel very believable. really like all the specific real world references to current politics, authors, video games, etc, it makes the story feel very grounded and realistic (also the photographic bgs help a lot... i love photographic bgs and they work really well in this story, they're very beautiful and look so pretty with the sprites)
The chara designs are great too, chun and nica are both so cute... they have such a nice range of expressions, nica especially is rly adorable
it was interesting seeing the events from two diff povs and seeing how they interpret things differently + their diff opinions, you really get a sense of how diff they are to one another from even the little things (for eg nica rly enjoying the bigfoot movie and thinking it might be one of her new favs vs chun finding it pretentious haha, even this small interaction shows they might not be on the same page re: interests and their personalities as they thought... also nica's unease and fear around the first kiss and how she dwells on it, vs chun kinda not thinking about it At All until a bit later when nica is quiet and she thinks "oh maybe i messed up...")
the first 2 acts are comprised of small, quiet moments of dissent between the charas like this and i liked it a lot, the vn feels like it's saying a lot while being very understated... rly captures the difficulties of simply being a human and talking to other humans and how hard it can be to understand even ppl you're close to
i dooo kind of think nica is a little too mean to chun in the third act, i don't think she's wrong to be upset by what chun does (cause uh being used as a replacement for her ex + being estalked is pretty nasty behaviour), and at the beginning i was kind of fully on team nica and rooting for her to give chun a bit of a talking to (since it felt pretty deserved)
but some of the language used felt unnecessarily harsh, like calling her a 'monster' or laughing at how 'pathetic' she is when chun is clearly already in a rly bad spot and has apologised multiple times
it felt a bit like beating a dead horse when chun had already apologised, but i get nica felt betrayed by chun's actions (also p a bit disappointed/let down since she spent a lot of money visiting her and it didn't work out how she wanted)
i guess some of the uncharitableness might have been the point though, since neither of them is meant to be 'perfect' and they're both kind of selfish in diff ways?
well i found the 3rd act pretty painful to read, but i still ultimately liked it a lot. i also have a lot of Thoughts about it, and the charas felt very real to me. thank you for making it, for such a 'superordinary story' i think it has a lot of heart
I think reaching out to people asking them to translate a commercial game for free is inappropriate. In the case of Lonely, the game was popular, so many people reached out to me asking to translate it, and I did not mind accepting their offers because it was free. Out of the Ocean is not popular, so nobody has offered to translate it, and I would feel guilty accepting free translations for a commercial work.
loved this, the pacing is great and the characters feel so realistically portrayed it's a little discomforting. i can't help but feel bad for sara despite everything, her pain is rendered so well. the pov switch from how sara views herself and he feelings to how an outsider views sara is interesting too, there's a lot to chew on in such a short game. the aesthetic is great too, i love the art and music.
pola's swimsuit is so cute i love it...
i really enjoyed this, i love the kind of ambient and meandering mood it takes? my fav scene was probably the one where tetra talks about the various things she wants to do with pola, before wondering whether these desires are actually hers or if she's repeating something she heard elsewhere. it felt very quiet and understated but there was something very relatable about it...
i love the filtered photo backgrounds, the ui, and the character art, it's very soft. it all blends together really nicely to make a cohesive mood, and the music is very dreamy and atmospheric. thank you for making it!
If you want to point out any typos you can join my discord server here, I have a dedicated channel for typos where people can point out anything odd. It's also easier for me to have all the reported typos for my VNs in one place.
Yuel and Tavi have a very fun dynamic, they're a lot of fun to write... My most beloved boys 🙏
The censorship in this VN has nothing to do with Itchio's policies. The artist for this VN is Japanese, and it's illegal for Japanese artists to draw genitals. It goes against the Obscenity Act, and Japanese artists can literally be sent to prison for drawing uncensored sex scenes. This is also why all Japanese r18 games, manga, etc are censored in a similar way.
In the scene Eva uses the word 'constant' it makes sense. She's telling Tavi not to be faithful to Yuel, and 'constant' is a synonym for 'faithful', 'devoted', 'loyal', etc etc
The other two are errors and I will fix them later, thank you for pointing them out.
I already have a proofreader and they catch a lot of typos and errors, but some small things will always slip though the cracks, it's inevitable.
the loading screen is super cute, i love bat genzou and rabbit iggy... they r very precious
also really like orlam's design here, his hair looks less ??? than usual haha
iggy feels a lil different here than in ow, ig b/c of the differing tones of the two stories? also probably b/c he has a different backstory now and isn't burdened by Immense Guilt all the time haha
i want to say this iggy feels more chill but he's still very awkward and self-conscious so ig chill is not the right word... but his anxieties feel less based in self-hatred and they're more played for comedy here. i feel like he became significantly more oblivious too lol but it facilitated some fun jokes
i think iggy and genzou have a fun dynamic, i also enjoy the contrast between iggy thinking genzou is the world's most charming man and orlam being very "you are such an artless philistne" lmao
there's a lot of cool stuff done w the sprites too, i really liked the framing of the iggy/genzou dance scene, and iggy vibrating so excitedly when he talks about video games. it was very cute haha
it's very polished and well put together in terms of visuals, and the character dynamics are rly fun. i like the light-hearted tone (even if you do drama and angst very well) and i enjoyed reading it, this was a lot of fun!
ooh i liked this one a lot, the writing was vey evocative and descriptive, and i really liked all the character designs. i know a lil bit about lady bathory myself so i recognised that all of the servant names lined up w her actual irl servants + the details about her husband and family, it was clearly well-researched. some of the language felt a bit modern at times given the historical setting but i didn't mind it, it gave the characters more personality.
this was a fun read, i enjoyed it. i think i saw every ending, too. thank you for making it!
