Hello! Dyscordion Entertainment is looking for a Unity Programmer to join our small team of developers working on Second Star - a first person adventure game set in a sci-fi universe 200 years in the future! This is a profit-share position and a great opportunity for a programmer who would like to gain experience on a large indie video game with a worldwide release.

We're a pretty fun, laid back but hardworking bunch that has been developing Second Star since March of 2019. We are a team of 12 made up of artists, writers, a sound designer, a composer, and one programmer. We are looking to add another programmer to the team to help us build our new UI.

Second Star is a sci-fi space adventure game with RPG elements. You play a scientist who is leading the search for a missing ship and her crew. We have a free demo out on Steam that you can try out and we are currently deep in development. The game is highly story-driven with a lot of cinematic moments. We often call it a crossover of Firewatch and Mass Effect.

Our team is very organized with no egos or personal drama. We welcome folks from all walks of life and we're fiercely passionate about the game we're building! We are looking for primarily a UI programmer but if that's just one of your many skills feel free to apply anyway!

The Role

- Attend weekly meetings with the team and take part in design sessions to understand specifications of features to be implemented

- Implement game functionality. We use Unity 2021 and Adventure Creator as our main framework.

- Implementing a UI from a set of designs from our artists

- Comfortable working with both internal and 3rd party assets

- Identifying and fixing bugs and performance issues

- Building game executables and patches

Requirements

- Previous experience on a Unity game - a portfolio or website with previous work is a big plus

- Unity UI building skills a must! We have a very pretty but rather complex UI that needs to be built to integrate with our gameplay systems.

- Excellent communication skills - we are a chatty but focused bunch and have a lot of passion for this game.

- Great attention to detail

- Ability to work the equivalent of 2 days a week on the game. Discord and a microphone is a must. Being a nice person is also a must.

Nice to Have

- Experience shipping a game (any platform)

- Console development experience

- Cute pictures of a pet (kidding but we do have a pets channel we love to post on)

What Kind of Game You'll Be Working On

Second Star is a first person adventure role playing game set in a sci-fi universe 200 years in the future. Our audience are players who enjoy sci-fi games with a focus on narrative and character dynamics but prefer a more exploratory, “adventure-game” approach over combat.

Second Star also features a cast of fully voiced, diverse characters the player can pursue deep relationships with, and a unique, futuristic aesthetic both in visuals and audio.

There is a free demo available on the Steam page to try out the first chapter of the game - we encourage interested programmers to give it a try to get a feel for what kind of game it is.

We plan to release Second Star on PC on most major digital stores, with consoles to follow.

Who we are

We are Dyscordion Entertainment, a small indie studio composed of artists, writers, designers, and programmers who love making video games. Our name originates from an in-team joke about playing a broken accordion sound for our splash screen logo and that our team meetings are often energetic and fun.

What we do

We are currently working on our debut game, Second Star - a first person adventure role playing game set in a sci-fi universe 200 years in the future. Our audience are players who enjoy sci-fi games with a focus on narrative and character dynamics but prefer a more exploratory, “adventure-game” approach over combat.

Second Star also features a cast of fully voiced, diverse characters the player can pursue deeper relationships with, and a unique, futuristic aesthetic both in visuals and audio.

We plan to release Second Star on PC on most major digital stores, with consoles to follow.

Why you should work with us

  • Female-led, diverse, and inclusive team (the majority of us identify as LGBTQ+) working remotely all around the world across several time zones
  • We maintain a healthy, fun, and laid back atmosphere (we use Discord to collaborate)
  • Exciting (but sometimes difficult!) challenges
  • Opportunity to contribute to a large production with multiple platform releases planned

How we operate

Dyscordion is a 100% independent studio and operates on a profit-share business model. Future funding is a potential possibility.

We ask all team members for a 2 days per week commitment. All profits from Second Star will be split evenly amongst the team.

How to Apply

Still with us? Awesome.

Just send your resume and any relevant portfolio links to contact@dyscordionentertainment.com. Please put your name and the role (Marketing Specialist) in the subject line.
