Hey everyone! I'm a software engineer from Valpara铆so, Chile, and if you're reading this... welcome to my midlife crisis, I guess. 馃槅
Ironically, I studied software engineering because I loved video games as a kid, and somehow I ended up building everything except games. Now I'm 33, and outside of work and trying to be a reasonably functional adult, I don't really have any personal goals anymore. So I want to get back to the things that made me happy growing up: music and games.
Back in college, I played in a pop-punk band, made games with RPG Maker, and even messed around with a tool that let you edit Pok茅mon Game Boy Advance ROMs and add your own mechanics (I wish I could remember what it was called).
So I decided to combine both passions.
My plan is to write an EP—or maybe even a full album—and build a game around it.
So here's the pitch.
You know that silly childhood idea that radios work because there are tiny little people inside playing all the instruments?
My game takes that concept and runs with it.
You play as a tiny mouse living inside a guitar amplifier while a band is out on tour. Your job is to keep the amp running perfectly throughout each show.
The core gameplay is rhythm-based. Each level is built around one of the songs from the album. By keeping up with the beat, you generate little musical notes of different colors, which are used to power the amp's vacuum tubes and keep the music going.
I'm imagining something with the chaotic energy of Overcooked, but centered around rhythm and music. While you're trying to keep the beat, different obstacles show up—maybe little bugs chewing through the wiring, stealing the notes you've generated, or causing other kinds of mayhem inside the amp.
I don't have a name for the project yet, but I'm determined to make it happen.
If that sounds like something you'd be interested in, stick around. 馃檪
