Okay I changed the default resolution on the embed page to 1600x900 so now the non-fullscreen should work unless your resolution is below that.

I've implemented a fix for fullscreen mode that should adjust down to smaller resolutions. I'm currently working on the non-fullscreen fix now.

Could you let me know what your screen resolution is?

Currently the standard size is 1920x1080.  If I knew yours, I could simulate it, and then I can put in a system that resizes based on that possibility.

I appreciate you letting me know :)

I appreciate the feedback. I'm working through some of the balance issues now, trying to get rid of the points in the game that feel like they pass too slowly. Getting rid of resources you have too much of is an intended feature but at the moment it feels unintentional, like a bit of a chore, and i'm working on it. I hope you get a chance to try it again when it's improved, I'll keep at it :)

Hi everyone! I've just released the first public version of my incremental game, What Lies in the Depths (v0.2.1).

▶ Play it here: https://drewthebear.itch.io/wlitd

You play a dreamer who has gone down into his own sleep and not come back up. Something has been growing down there, and the only way to reach it is to sink: fathom by fathom, veil by veil, deeper into the dream. You start with nothing but a humming stone to sit on. By the end you'll have built a Mind Palace, gathered a small people of the dream to your side, and marched out to face whatever has been waiting at the bottom.

What's in it:

  • 100 veils to part, each with its own short piece of the story
  • A Mind Palace to build, laid out as a map you grow over the whole game
  • Revelations and Visions, lasting upgrades that change how the dream works
  • The Oneiri, the dream's small people, who you bind to tasks to keep things running
  • A road of 25 battles leading to the thing at the bottom, with more than one way for it to end
  • Roughly 6–7 hours to finish. It keeps running in the background.
  • Three colour palettes (including a dark one) and a contrast setting
  • Save export and import, so browser players can keep a backup

Honest note: this is a first release, and the balance still needs work. Some stretches may drag and some upgrades may be too strong or too weak. That's exactly where I'd love your help. If you play, I'd really appreciate hearing:

  • where it felt slow, or where you got stuck
  • anything that was confusing
  • any bugs or visual glitches

Comments on the game page are great, or come chat on the Discord: https://discord.gg/PRSR6RxjU

It was heavily inspired by Korbohned's You Found A Hole In The Ground. If you liked that, I hope this scratches a similar itch.

Thanks for reading!

Incredibly unique and well executed. I think keeping it as a web game is going to hurt you in the long run given the speed issues inherent in the current build, but it would probably do really well on Steam.

Talked with Sol and Luna and it sent me back to the beginning of the game. Was I supposed to continue? Was it a prestige thing or was that the end?

You can use either Stone Dust or Stone in an Transmuter to make iron. Stone Dust makes it at a more efficient rate, but costs energy to produce the dust as a trade-off.

Got to the 3D portion, tried maximizing it but that slowed it to a crawl so I put it back to normal browser size... then it crashed a few seconds in...

It was just getting interesting...

Really liked this until I got to 7% of the dyson and the entire game froze up... and the creator isn't even commenting about it :/

Can I just say how much I appreciate that the description of the game includes an estimate on how long the gameplay is? That is so rare on itch and it's so important.

Dope, just bought it :)

Yo, just bought this pack and it's really cute. I would also love more crops for sure. You should maybe release a second pack with just crops or something. If you do, come back to this comment and reply with the link and I'll buy that too.

Can't open the zip file...
