This game was a lot of fun!
It was a simple premise, executed very solidly, with a good blend of horror and comedy.
The ending section was genuinely creepy. There are few things that make me nervous more than sitting with my back to an open door, especially with the added context of the story. The monster reveal was good, both in the design and how it was done.
It would be good if there was a bit more to do, maybe with some sort of activity or puzzle solving for resolving some of the calls, or something to do between calls.
Good job!
Interesting game. The overall concept is fun, and I can’t say that I can think of another game with a killer robot cashier. I like the use of upbeat chase music, as it reminds me of old Italian horror movies.
There were a few bugs that I noticed:
- If you escape the cashier, some of the names of intractable objects get messed up.
- There doesn’t seem to be an actual ending for if you escape the cashier, with your only option being to walk back to him and get caught.
- When you are getting chased, the cashier’s walking animations don’t activate.
- The cashier’s walking animations get a bit odd in general if you watch him while he goes into the back.
My main suggestions would be to try to get/make assets that match in style a bit more (the cashier is a bit jarring) and try to flesh out the world a bit more outside of the store a bit more (even if it’s just a thick forest or brick wall, it’s better than staring into the void). Fleshing out the store with some extra decorative objects and/or flavour text would also help out a bit.
Good job!
Very nice!
A very solid short game. I liked the monster designs and the atmosphere of the game. The voice acting/voice over was a really nice touch, and good to see given how rare it is in game jam games. I liked the inclusion of the seven stories, they tied in well to the overall themes of the story itself and gave the game a bit of a folklore feel.
It would have been cool if the monster designs were changed up a little to reflect their sins, but I understand that there’s only so much you can do in a week. My only other note be that if you look up it becomes pretty clear that every tree is the same model.
Well done!
Cool game! I think that it has a really interesting concept, and your placement of the maids throughout was effective in being creepy, even startling me a couple of times when I didn’t realize there was one behind me. Physics puzzles are always great to see, even if it is a small ‘proof-of-concept’ one.
It would be good if the game was a bit more explicit as to what items are supposed to be interacted with/ dragged, as the first time I played I accidentally lost the key in a wall and had to restart. I also think that adding sounds and playing around with the lighting a bit would help in developing the atmosphere.
I saw that you marked this as a ‘prototype’, so I really hope that you do go on to develop this into a bigger game, as I think that there’s a lot that you could do with it.
Good job!
This game is a lot of fun!
I like the aesthetics and the lighting changing as the monster gets angrier is a cool idea I haven’t really seen before. The story was also pretty good, I always enjoy folklore inspired creatures and I think that you pulled it off well.
There were a few bugs that I found:
- If you read while moving, the camera keeps bobbing.
- Sometimes the camera goes weird/out of bounds if you get too close to some walls/corners.
- The enemy can sometimes get you from walls.
Bugs aside, my main suggestions would be that the objectives could be made a bit clearer and having spookier menus and splash screens would go a long way, as most of them currently just have plain text on a coloured background
SPOILERS:
I’m not quite sure what I’m supposed to do at the end of the game. I’ve collected all notes and entered the name (I tried both of the names for good measure), but nothing really seems to change. I don’t know whether I’m missing something or whether there isn’t an ending implemented for the game yet. Overall, good work!
Overall, good work!
