That is the intended experience, yes

No worries, it was part of a game jam, so it was never properly balanced or fully fleshed out. I don’t take it as rude and I appreciate you playing it.

Spoilers below:

///////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////

There is an important distinction between dad/giles to play on the idea of dad versus the character’s actual father (stepdads). Oma is german for grandmother, so you don’t get texts from her, but regular long calls.

Whoops, looks like the sender/receiver JSON for the mom’s texts got reversed. Should be fixed now. I can see how that would be very confusing.

Two of the numbers are real, so you can look them up: Naval Observatory Standard Time (which you can call and get the current time) and Poison Control.

Answers:

Issac Honeylick - 111-111-1111 (coworker)

Grant Monument - 303-333-333 (friend, roommate)

Dough Nutty - 303-444-444 (Job)

Naval Observatory Time - 202-762-1401 (real number)

Poison Control - 800-222-1222 (real number)

Eddie - 303-777-777 (previous boyfriend, called Ed)

Sigrith Loudermilk - 303-833-3388 (friend of a friend, called Sig)

Atheylna Dinn - 444-555-6669 (current girlfriend)

Giles Deacon - 333-222-1112 (Stepfather with dad puns)

Mom - 333-555-1112 (mother)

Dad - 720-555-0220 (deadbeat father)

Oma - 999-555-9999 (grandmother)

Tim and Mary Fisher - 720-555-1111 (landlords)

Boyd - 303-555-0102 (brother)

Ignore Me - 248-434-5508

Thanks, glad you liked it!

I really enjoyed this game, it included a lot of very subtle clues that felt like I was making real progress even when I was just bouncing between the rooms. I felt like I had two ideas for the possible passcode for the lock box, but neither worked. But otherwise, I enjoyed the art and the setup in the introduction had a dark humor to it that I enjoyed.

Three numbers are real numbers in real life, so you can try to trial and error two known numbers (Poison Control and Naval Observatory Time for example) with an unknown number

Thanks for the feedback, three of the numbers are real numbers that don’t have a text conversation associated with them, so there is a bit more of an AR experience to it then I intended. I spent most of the jam on the technical aspects of the game as a proof of concept, so in the future I can look at longer messages/music/and the like 👍

Intriguing opening, with an excellent atmosphere with a setting and mechanic I haven’t seen like this before. Very fun world building and well drawn characters.

Wonderful art really adds to the text being displayed and I really enjoyed the subtle way their mouths open when it is their turn to do the talking.

I found the colored words to be a nice and subtle way to show new options without having to have it outright explained
