Yeah absolutely!
Risk-Reward ratio makes games fun, imo.
Your game's reward is digging up stuff to make money, but there's no risk.
How I assumed it would work when I was playing was that you have to be thinking about 2 things when deciding the path downwards that you'll carve to get objects:
1. How do I get to the objects?
2. How will I be able to climb back to the surface with them so I can sell them.
I think this challenge would make the game even more fun. It would make you think more (rather than just mashing click :), and would give some enjoyable anxiety around "oh no, I dug pretty deep, will I be able to make it back up to the surface?"
This could enable 2 further changes: hide more vaulable objects deeper in the level (greater reward, but greater risk in the form of difficulty getting back to the surface); and secondly, have there be some punishment if you're unable to make it back to the surface -- either losing the items you gathered, or losing them + losing money for the "extraction bill".
Hope that this makes sense, but lmk if I can clarify any of my thoughts!
Loved this! 5***** across the board. And so I want to help make it better.
Until I got hardlocked in a position and couldn't turn around (bug) my assumption was that I'd need to excavate recycling in a way where I could climb back to the surface & not get stuck down there forever. I think it'd make the game way more fun long term if you had to plan your excavation strategy so there's always a way to climb back up to the surface, rather than having an escape button.
the inventory system confused me - I thought the game was bugging when I couldn't pick up a soda can and it became a collidable object i could stand on.
the sell at shop action confused me. I didn't realize it was a button until trying jump, down, click on guy, spacebar, enter, and other keys around WASD.
Overall awesome job, I loved the art and the gameplay and would love to see this be a full game.
{{ps. if you do add a shop I think an escape rope ala pokemon would be a great item to sell}}
nice game! at first I found myself wondering why the red cans didn't appear on my ball's surface, then i realized they are -2. I think my interest was lost after level 1, but I think there's potential there if you fine-tune the layout and make certain +1's harder to get bc they're surrounded by -2s, so you have to learn the level through failure and get those ones while you're still small.
that game was fun!
hard at the start, i lost pretty bad my first time.
i like how to get an extra dice you need to defeat 2 enemies without buying any other upgrades ($400x2).
the colors were great (faded orange and blue) and the music was fitting. I like the 'doomed corporate worker' theme as well, and how its said to treat customers well but then you fight them.
the customer was creepy. i think the sound when they walk up to the counter could be turned down by half, but the other sounds were pretty good.
i also really like the dedication you wrote to your girlfriend and thought that was really sweet!
Honestly it’s an MVP. There’s no winning or end screen or even reset button.
this was our first game we ever made and something core went wrong about 10hrs before the deadline (nothing could be thrown anymore) so after 3+ hours of troubleshooting we decided to rebuild the whole thing from scratch like 5 hours before the deadline.
so yeah, mainly just wanted to submit what we had and use it as a learning experience & building block for future projects :)
