Really cool game! It's a lot of fun trying to position critters just right to maximize food gain and minimize drama. Not to mention all the art done for the game is incredible! The inclusion of a pre-game tutorial is much appreciated, though some mechanics weren't explained at all as has been pointed out by others here (I didn't know you could purchase tiles until looking through the comments here).
Besides that, really nice work!
Really great entry! It was cool seeing all the updates in Discord, and I'm really impressed at how polished it feels on all fronts! Gameplay, visuals, and audio all feel very fine-tuned. The only weird thing was that using Ctrl to descend in water felt a little awkward in tandem with WASD, but that's only a minor nitpick. It's especially inspiring knowing that this is a reimagining of an older game of yours.
Excellent work!
Cool puzzle game! I like the mechanics you introduced for each different critter and how they can interact with each other. For pacing, I'm thinking either the critters should move faster or there should be a speed-up button that speeds up the critters if you hold it. As it stands, it feels like I have to wait quite a long time to see if my attempt at solving the level's puzzle worked.
Besides that, really nice job!
Really cool game! I love the creative mechanic of editing DNA to create custom upgrades; it's so much fun trying out different combinations to see what happens. Just a heads up, the sound effects can get pretty loud when attacking multiple enemies at once - it might be a good idea to implement a volume slider for music and sfx.
Really nice work!
Good job on this! I like the gameplay concept and aesthetic with the 2D protagonist in a 3D world, and I definitely appreciate being able to adjust the mouse sensitivity and speed of the QTEs. Admittedly, I feel like the gameplay as currently stands is more frustrating than fun, especially with how many QTEs you have to get in a row while simultaneously dodging the big guy in tandem with how little reward you actually get for even 9x critical hits. Then again, that could just be me being bad at the game.
All in all, nice work!
Good game! I like the concept behind it and how the game controls overall. The volume setting is a much appreciated inclusion, but unfortunately it seems to reset back to the default volume when returning to the main menu, which happens frequently since you have to go to the main menu to pick the next level.
Besides that, nice work!
Really cool game! A simple yet engaging and intuitive gameloop that feels strategic yet very cozy. It was especially fun discovering what critters appeared as the tongue was able to get higher and higher. When there's no visible flies on the screen at the start of a round, it is a bit difficult to guess what launch direction/speed would be the best, but that's only a minor nitpick.
Really nice work!
It's great that y'all were able to get something submitted in such a short time span! If you end up revisiting the game and want to improve the gamefeel, I'd recommend looking at the Camera2D node's drag margins. They can be used to create a dead zone region for the camera where the camera won't move unless the player tries to go past the limits of that region. As of right now, your camera moves with every single movement that happens, which kinda makes it feel like the level is moving around the player instead of the other way around.
Good job and congrats on your first submission!
Cool game! I really like the concept behind it - very interesting take on a language learning game! And I appreciate the thought that went into accessibility with the varying difficulties and the practice popups on easy mode. You might consider leaving out "beetle" in the game (or at least just in the English language) since it shares the same starting letters as "bee". It resulted in some scenarios where I began typing "beetle" and the game registered it as "bee" when a bee just spawned in.
Nice work!
Nice work on this one! It's cool that you made a game that works both on computers and on phones. The gameplay itself is pretty creative and intuitive, and there's tons of polish in both the visuals and the audio. The flashing lights warning is appreciated, but I think it would be even better to have that plus an option in the settings to turn flashing lights off.
Well done!
Really great entry! Gameplay, visuals, and audio all feel really polished and well thought out. I like the skill tree mechanic and how it encourages replayability, and the accessibility and quality of life features throughout are much appreciated. I do think the critical hit sound is just a bit too loud - it genuinely startled me the first time I heard it.
Really nice work!
Really neat game! I love the core concept behind the gameplay - really creative take on an RPG! One quality of life feature I'd recommend adding is that when the player's attack damage becomes greater than the remaining health the enemy has, the fireball could move substantially faster so that the player doesn't have to wait around for too long.
Great work!
Really great game! There's an incredible amount of polish both in terms of presentation and gameplay. I especially enjoy being able to position the grubkins at the start of each battle - it adds just enough strategy while still staying true to the sprit of an autobattler. Took about 3 tries but I managed to beat the game with a team of 6 and had lots of fun along the way!
Excellent work!
Nice work on this one! It's so cool that you used real clay to make the graphics. The overall gameplay loop is pretty solid and intuitive, though I would recommend adding some sort of colorblind mode, especially since in the later levels the differences in color from one critter to the next start to get a lot less distinct.
Good job!
Seems like a cool concept! Just a heads up, I seem to be running into a weird issue when playing the game - the player character and aliens and text all move around just fine, but the background seems to be displaying as a static image that doesn't move at all regardless of player input. Based on your screenshots I'm going to assume this is an issue on my end (I'm running Google Chrome on a Mac for what it's worth).
Cool take on the critter theme! It's always neat seeing how classic games like whack-a-mole can be iterated upon with new twists and mechanics. I thought the visual presentation of everything was really strong too! I liked the audio overall, though I feel like the sound effects are too loud in relation to the music.
Nice work!
