I’ve been working on REALM, a 2D game editor built for people who want to start making games without needing to learn a huge complicated engine first.
The idea behind REALM is simple: make a friendly editor where new creators can build maps, import sprites and tilesets, place objects, test gameplay, and start putting together a real 2D game.
REALM includes tools for:
- Tile-based level editing
- Sprite and sprite sheet importing
- Tilesets and tile categories
- Objects, enemies, coins, keys, doors, checkpoints, NPCs, and triggers
- Multiple levels
- Layers and collision tools
- Lighting, weather, particles, and atmosphere
- Quests, dialog, inventory, shops, and rewards
- Playtesting inside the editor
- Project health checks
- Export tools in the full desktop version

The project is still in development, so it is not finished yet. Some features are still experimental, and I’m actively improving the workflow, fixing issues, and making it easier to use.
My main goal is to build a game editor that feels approachable for beginners. Something that lets you start creating quickly without feeling overwhelmed.
There is a REALM Demo available on itch.io so you can try the editor in your browser. The demo has some full-version features locked, but it lets you explore the editor and see what REALM is becoming.
If you’re interested in 2D game creation tools, beginner-friendly editors, or indie game dev software, I’d really appreciate you checking it out and following the project.
