The art was great! Everything looked good and the animations flowed smoothly. The only issue with animations was the player's attack didn't line up the animation it played, but otherwise was excellent. The gameplay itself was also very fun, but only after you get your first powerup (in the furnace). Until you find your first powerup, you kind of wander around aimlessly. If I hadn't played a metroidvania before, I wouldn't have known to look for new abilities in the first place. A linear section at the start leading players to their first powerup would help newer players know what to look for. The enemies were fun and a good obstacle, but combat was pretty finicky with the hitbox issues, so I avoided combat when possible. A small thing too was in the bottom right of the furnace and a few other places you can see outside the map, but that's a total nitpick. I really liked the wall jump section where you have to climb out of the pit, that was creative! I ended up getting all 20/20 of the trophies (although I thought they were coins at the time), and the game overall was extremely fun!

Also I didn't realize until just now (by reading another person's comment), that the pressure system was designed to kill you. I never interacted with the mechanic. I guess I prefer it to the timer being too fast, but the timer was so long I didn't even notice it.

I don't know if I I'm playing it wrong, but the game is currently completely broken. I can open chests and the weapons show up in my slots 1 and 2, but I can only punch/slap. I tried using every variation of e/q / left click / right click, but its all only slaps / gut punches. Additionally I kept getting stunlocked by any skeleton because I couldn't kill them in fewer than like 5 hits. At this point, I beat the game only by avoiding combat and using the fact that the enemy AI breaks when you die to run through and get all of the keys.

Aside from that though, here's my review:

The game looks really good. The models and animations are great and I like the isometric view. My only issue with visuals is that the skeleton's crossbow bolts are far too small, I could never tell when they were shooting.

Also the spawning of the monsters in the first level is far too soon, I was just starting to walk around and get my bearings when I got ganked by 3 skeles and a zombie.

Additionally, the key system seemed to be broken as well. I would move to the next level with 2 keys on the UI, but be unable to open anything. When I picked up a new key my number of keys would jump to 4, and keys # doesn't tick down when you use them. Then, even when I had a key there were some gates that I could unlock and others I couldn't seemingly without explanation.

Now, I want to be clear, this game is really cool. The only reason I took the time to write a review this long is because the game has a lot of potential and clearly a lot of passion went into it.

The game was really well polished and fun to play. I didn't spot any bugs while playing, although there was some wierdness where when I would turn, I would often find that I had over-turned by about 180 degrees (skill issue?). I didn't end up using the time slowdown at all, but that's just because I'm the GOAT gamer lol. Honestly, the game kind of reminded me of It Follows with the horse always on your tail. Great job!

Posted in the wrong place, sorry! Moved my comment to the game jam.

I get an embedded html error when I try to run it ;(

The art direction was incredible, everything except for the sandwhich looked really good lol. The level design was really creative at times as well (level 2 ambush I'm looking at you). The main problems with the game are that it requires a lot of clicking to complete (holding would be much more comfortable) and that the player walks slow, so it makes walking around feel a bit like a slog. Additionally, I don't know if the level 2 final boss can be beaten without cheesing him on the table (although if that's the intended solution I suppose that it works as intended). Those are relatively minor though and the game was still really good.

I really enjoyed the companion system and how they help against the bullies. The fact that the bullies are both faster than you and one tap you felt a little unbalanced, but admittedly that was only because my camera was broken and I couldn't turn to aim at the bullies. It could only rotate so far to the left or right, so I could only see in one direction. I also encountered a bug that if you press f on dialogue (instead of space) it plays the text backwards, so when it told me to use f to speak with Globi I was severely confused. The music and the art direction on the game were very good, and other than the one bug, the dialogue implementation was great as well.

The music on the game was outstanding. There were a lot of interesting ideas here at a base level, but I didn't find myself too engaged with them in practice. I think an overhaul of the models in the game would've contributed a lot to immersion, and the fact the player's visor-thingy was off center was driving my OCD nuts. The stealth and maze were my favorite of the four levels, but I couldn't figure out how to complete the puzzle level.

I quite enjoyed it. The bullet hell aspect of it was fun and upgrades felt meaningful. The only complaint I have is that the shop doesn't pause the game. Other than that it felt really good to play.

Thanks for playing! Yes this is the tech demo version. We had a catastrophic github merge conflict error at the end of the project that made it impossible to build and took a while to resolve. The correct version has now been posted, please give it another shot!
