Hi everyone! I've just published TrapWars NYC, a turn-based trading game that runs on a handheld that never existed.

You get 30 days, $2,000 in your pocket, and $5,500 owed to a man who does not do payment plans. Eight NYC boroughs, prices that move, and interest that compounds daily while you decide whether one more run is worth it.

Browser-based and free.. no install, no account, about half an hour a run.

A few things I'm quietly proud of:

  • The whole world is seeded, so a run is reproducible from its seed. Same seed, same prices, same encounters.
  • The market has an actual rhythm rather than pure noise, so paying attention beats memorising a table.
  • There's a leaderboard and a graveyard. The graveyard is the more honest one.

The UI is the bit people react to first. It's green-on-black and built like a PDA, because a trading game is basically a spreadsheet with consequences, and a Palm Pilot is the most honest box to put a spreadsheet in.

Happy to hear what breaks or what feels unfair.. it's in active development and the balance is still moving.
