Is it possible to move an image within the mask? I’ve set it up, but when I try to move the image the mask moves along with the image.

when the text box is open you are able to switch to an inventory screen which has the hint from the book shelf! as for not being able to advance text after choice, i've recently been informed this is an issue with the mac export of the game very sorry!! will try to fix this in the future...

at the end there are a few ways you can go, going the wrong way gives an ending hope this helps!
