Thank you so much!

Yes, it's linked under the free files!

Thought was put into which weapons have which properties, but the idea of “balance”/“overpowered” is a bit antithetical to BDP’s entire design.

Sure, it’s flashy in combat, but it might also means foes won’t risk taking you alive anymore, and villagers fleeing from your terrifying reputation.

I can’t get over how efficient, slick, well-written this is. It’s like I have 5 goblins in my head sitting at a table, arguing about how to best flesh out various ideas, when a 6th comes in holding this document, slams it on the table and just starts aggressively pointing at it.

Sure! If you post the final result online, I can link to it, too!

You can also shoot me an e-mail on larshuijbregts@gmail.com - I just need to be able to directly send you something :)

Hey there, thank you for your purchase! I’ve endeavored to make the PDF/digital edition its own value-for-money; it includes essentially the same file that Lulu uses for printing, and a bunch of extras - as opposed to the Lulu version, which has a low markup for both sizes.

That being said: reach out to me on discord or Bluesky, and I can see what I can do!

This is a very, very big download, so I figured, for those curious, I’d write down a bit about what’s inside, following the primary folder structure. I by no means mean to disparage the effort that went into collecting this; I’m just trying to contextualize the utility for other people like me.

  • Art: Various images. Not very big, not super useful.
  • Battle Maps: A big selection of maps, sorted by theme. Quality/usability varies, but overall, likely to have something useful.
  • Character Manager: Didn’t open this, separate zip with what I think is a Dark Heresy/Only War character sheet tool.
  • Character Sheets: PDFs for Black Crusade.
  • Fonts: Typefaces commonly used in 40k stuff.
  • Gameplay Reference: Excel files containing weapons/equipment for the FFG games.
  • Graphics: A big collection of various images. Some seem to be files used in programs, like HUD elements. The Ship Graphics list is cool/extensive. There’s also some useful templates for dataslates.
  • Handouts: Various images that mostly serve as inspiration, as they seem to be made for specific adventures.
  • Hive Maps: A few variations/big photoshop files of the same hive image; I think you can overlay your own images?
  • Org Charts: A few charts that lay out the Imperium’s structures, which can definitely be useful.
  • Planetary Maps: 2 examples on how to make sleek, relatively minimal hex maps for planets, and Photoshop/Paint.net templates.
  • Props: Big collection of PNGs that can be used on maps. Pretty good quality, pretty big selection. Mostly assets from deZigner, as far as I can tell.
  • Space Maps: Various sector/space maps
  • Tokens: Big variation of tokens, for every faction imaginable. Top-down, circle-stamped, and deZigner.
  • World Maps: Example of how to make a planet map (single image)

Thank you for the nice comment! I wrote all these modules so fast after each other, that I’ve forgotten most of the contents myself. Your comment made me go back and read it, and go, “well damn, that IS solid work”.

Thank you so much! I love the framework you laid out - the rest honestly wrote itself!

Yesss, I just did so!

Thank you, glad you like it!

Thank you!

Oops, you’re right, fixing that!

If anything, it’s really topical!

A discount for the print version? I’m currently not planning on it.

The markup on the print version is already quite low. Printing is, simply put, not very cheap in this day and age.

The PDF (on Itch) can also be printed by anyone who wants to, and includes the additional bonuses/digital tools and such I’ve released over the years, so I feel like that’s fair value. Anyone who purchased an earlier edition/version automatically has full access to the current full release PDF.

It is! I’ll say that I find the A4 font size quite big, and the A5 font size a liiiitle on the small side, but not extremely so. That is to say; it’s not a normal A4 font size shrunken down.

I’m awaiting my test copies from Lulu - if those are good, I’ll open the PoD!

Since both use Cairn as the template, the overall compatibility is quite high! You can check out the SRD for edition 1.32 for a general idea of the contents :)

❤️ Thank you!

On behalf of the entire team (which is just me), thank you very much!

This one came first, and is a bit more of a lineair/narrative approach. HARD DROP is more open ended/hexcrawl based.

I didn’t do that on accident - as to whether it makes complete sense, I’m not sure yet either. The HTML file is a bit fancier (imo), so I figured I’d put that behind the purchase. The PDF does showcase a bit more about what BDP is about :D

Thank you!

  1. Yes, initiative/DEX is rolled each round!
  2. Sure! That would likely require quite a bit of Fatigue, so it's not like it's something you're pulling off all the time. It sounds like really burning up some reserves to perform a very impressive feat - which I think is balanced!

Updated!

Bertdrawsstuff!

That's a pretty big file size for 16 pages 😅😅

Thank you for the extensive review!

I like "showing my work", so it was definitely a goal to give a lot of inspiration on how to run an ambush, besides giving the means to run this particular ambush. I don't have quite enough there to release it as a separate framework, but I hope it can inspire people to modify it, take it apart and run their own!

As per the geography, that's definitely one of the fun discoveries of writing FIST missions, since I almost exclusively wrote fantasy stuff before this. It really started on Google Maps, and trying to figure out what would make sense with the parameters of the mission.

When I found actual historical maps it felt like the icing on the cake - this really grounded it in reality so much more. The real stretch north of Kunduz has a few more villages, so it's about finding the right level of granularity and a balance between real life and "interesting gameplay mechanics". I wanted an earlier ambush to be riskier to execute, with a later ambush feeling providing better terrain, but also less leeway if things go south.

Anyway, I appreciate the thorough analysis, and it's extra motivation to deliver a good final chapter to this saga!

Thanks for the review! I don't know if you've read the post on the creation of this ruleset, but Helldivers 2 is *exactly* what I was going for, so it's really cool to hear you name that!

Thanks for the review! I'll look into fixing that HTML image :)

I think it's default set to 9 pts, I could bump up my default.
By the way, what did you mean by "fixed index"?

Hey there, thanks for the comment!

  1. This is more of a ruling than a rule, but yeah, I think I'd be okay with stacking! Armored enemies can be a pain, so going through the effort of stacking 2 anti-armor measures does merit a reward, I think.
  2. I'll have a look at the fixed index for the larger typeface document! As per bonus content, I think I'll keep it separate, as it is bonus content - not every user might use them at the same time, and I want to keep a spirit of flexibility.
  3. That's a good idea! I'm currently juggling quite a few projects, but I'll put this on the idea list! Until then, Cairn has a really good Relic list available here, that should be fully usable with some tweaks.

The proper-print-layout is being worked on (I've seen the first spreads!) and once those are done, going to Lulu is very likely, yes!

Hey there! My drivethru is a bit outdated (I hate the interface there, my bad). If you send me an e-mail at larshuijbregts@gmail.com, I'll sort you out with an itch code!

I made a discord for all who'd like to discuss their progress and ideas:

No problem at all, and I can't wait to see what you cook up!

I just added 5 more community copies!

The larger typeface version is uploaded. It's pretty bare (no cover, page numbers probably don't refer to the right pages but the links do work), but should make it easier to read!
