Hey, sorry I never responded! I don't log in to itch much. But the Linux version is currently only available on Steam. I'll consider publishing it on itch as well. Thanks for asking! - Jeremy

Hello, Mark. Thank you for your YouTube series. As a fellow game developer, it's great to watch. I have some thoughts, but they are subjective, so please take this with a grain of salt:
While the gameplay is good, the character controller is well done (acceleration, deceleration, jump, etc), the mechanics are easy to comprehend, the level design is so-so (easy wins should be peppered throughout to give a sense of achievement and flow, i.e. introduce mechanic, next level is easy, then medium, then hard), the game itself is... not fun.
I think to myself, "why am I playing this?". When I play Untitled Magnet Game, I feel like I'm playing a game that's just created for the sake of making a game. The title could just be "Video Game". I don't see the joy in the creativity here. There is loads of creativity, just no joy in it. Perhaps this is done intentionally to just make an MVP, but I feel that joy still make it into an MVP. Joy can be communicated through:
- Story (which can give players a reason to finish)
- Environment art
- Player artwork
- Gameplay elements (is there humor to be found in your mechanics?)
Are you having fun making this game? Does it make you smile or chuckle to yourself when you make it? I ask this because it seems like a game someone was obligated to make. Some games are dark, brooding, and serious... but your game here feels like it should have whimsy. There is a whimsical aspect to the character and idea, but there's no whimsy or joy in the gameplay.
Even so, it's still pretty solid as a "video game", it's just not fun to play.
Keep up the good work and find that joy!
Hello again, thank you for sharing that info. I'm sorry that the new build didn't work. Yes, the game is available on Mac in Steam and has worked with no issues for hundreds of people. This has to do with how the Steam API is integrated into Unity builds before it is uploaded to Steam for publication. Dexter Stardust is also available on Nintendo Switch, which has a very rigorous review process. No issues there.
However, itch.io is aware of the issues that MacOS users are having with new Unity builds. This is why they encourage the use of the itch.io app for MacOS. It's still DRM free. There is no DRM in itch games as far as I know.
As far as running the Terminal, you can learn about a workaround here: https://discussions.apple.com/thread/7682929
Even so, if you are not able to run the game, and if you prefer not to download and use the itch app (which I totally understand), please request a refund. Then, if you'd like contact me at dexterteamgames@gmail.com and I'll send you a Steam key for free. In the meantime, take care and enjoy your day!
Hi! I'm sorry to hear about the issue. You can see that this issue has been addressed in the past by itch.io admins:
https://itch.io/t/305278/help-cant-run-games-on-my-mac
Itch.io admins suggest using the itch app for Macs. I understand if you do not want to use it. Interestingly, as a Mac user myself, I have recently noticed that MacOS is not allowing many itch games on my computer. They used to work with previous MacOS versions, but not with the latest MacOS versions. There are a few workarounds using the Terminal. Have you tried those out? A quick Google search may yield a solution.
Also, I have uploaded a new build MacOS build, just in case there was an issue with the previous build. Download it and try again. Let me know how it goes. I look forward to hearing back!
Hey! Sorry about that. When you downloaded the game, there was this note:
NOTE for MAC users: the app download is not a signed build with Apple, so if you download the game from a browser, a warning may be shown and the app will refuse to run. Nothing is wrong with the game, the operating system is just blocking it. Instead of downloading from a browser, MAC users should download the game using the itch app: https://itch.io/app
Did you download the game from the itch app? Let me know. Thanks!
Great job! I loved the graphics and the gameplay was very simplistic (which is good!). Definitely a game I'd like to see controller support for.
However, it was really really slow on my computer. I develop in Unity as well, yet this game was extremely laggy. Probably like 10 frames per second. My computer:
•iMac 5K
• 16GB
• 3.4 GHz Quad-Core Intel Core i5
I run a lot of 3D games on my computer, so something must be going on. Maybe check out the profiler or stats (in the Game window) to see what's going on. Looking forward to more though. Well done!

Thanks! I'm working hard on the full game as we speak. The art and story has changed slightly, but that's what happens as you flesh out an idea I suppose. Check it out: https://twitter.com/SeaMonsterMedia
Thanks! I'm working really hard on it. In the meantime you can follow the game dev here - https://twitter.com/SeaMonsterMedia
That's a great idea. For now you can follow us on Twitter here: https://twitter.com/SeaMonsterMedia . I'm posting artwork, trailers, posters, ideas, news, updates, and info about a super cool tie-in project, a live-action animated short. When the kickstarter launches I'll tweet about it right away. Thanks so much for your interest in the game! It's exciting to see other people excited about it.
