It's not that I wouldn't enjoy creating a Harvest Moon style game, it's that Stardew has it well covered, and I believe you should always work on something you intend to release or that fills a niche. I don't think creating something to throw away as practice is ever the correct path.

With that said, I believe there's always space for new iterations of genres, and if that's what you want to do then I would do it!

I have free time and an idea I wish to develop for the next 4-5 years.

Inspired by the game play loops of Stardew Valley in order to promote retention, it's a low/high fantasy RPG based in England. I have a general idea of the themes and story, not as much of the game play and main loops. For instance, I don't know if there should be parties or if it's solo, turn-based vs action based,  city building/defense elements or not, the extent of magic, etc.

I'm just above 30 years old, almost done with my (useless) CS degree, so I'm experienced in programming, and also grew up a musician, thus have dabbled in music production and am familiar with DAWs.
