"When a loved one dies, birds can display behaviors indicating emotional distress, such as increased vocalisation,  changes in appetite,  withdrawal, changes in social behaviour  and even becoming more aggressive ... " This can include no longer flying.

Heya we're a group of game development students that have developed this game about a crow dealing with grief.
Its mostly a narrative driven game with stealth mechanics.

You can check it out here One for Sorrow:
https://itch.io/jam/jamsepticeye/rate/3925901

Cool concept! The poor cat tho... dying so many times just to become less blind?

Thank you very much <3

I'm happy to hear you liked it. Yup the alarms, lights and footsteps every beat and every time  in between beats as well. That in between beats didn't make sense honestly but I thought it was a cool touch xD because footsteps once per beat felt slow.
I wanted to do charging initially be needing to slide but pfff I later on like stepped back on that because scope wise not doable. Sliding is incredibly hard to get to work nicely and feel good.

Yeaah so I implemented the respawn system like VERY late because I realized omg if you die you need to restart all the way from the start.
So its not really implemented well. hehe... but yeah glad you liked it.
Idk whatsup with that bossbar not appearing tho hmm

I did not expect that music drop, it honestly jumpscared me at first. It gives so much more power to that powerball!

I like the concept, however I felt like physics were kinda messing with me sometimes it would randomly just start flying high in the air.

Really like the concept. Played it for like half an hour. Was lots of fun.

Aaah this game is so much fun! I played several games of like over 6/7 minutes it gets very stressful at some point. But I'm really liking it!

Movement and abilities felt really nice. Well done with that. Something I did really struggle with was the lack of vision I had trouble navigating.

Yeah it takes a bit longer than I hoped for. But this became difficult with balancing the jump and shooting charge. That I was like yeah I'm not gonna spend time on this. I don't have the time for that

The objective text said: Charge up your power to activate the door activator. On the right you've got a power bar. If you let that go all the way up you'll be overcharged which leads to electricity flying all around you powering the activator.

Control are quite difficult at first. But when you get the hang of it its very satisfying to throw things around. I really liked it, good job!

Such a lovely game, I played through the entirety of it. The second level with the wizard I got stuck on for so long!

Cool work! I'm personally not a big fan of using C++ in Unreal Engine IF you really don't need to.
For easy access from non programmers, like technical designers also working with code quite often.
And well barely any advantages of using C++ instead of Blueprints.
I'm trying to assemble a small team at the moment of about 5/6 people.
If you're interested send me a message on Discord: datalioness

Oh I'd love to have some amazing music for the game.
And I absolutely love Jazz.
That is however restricting a bit of what we could do I can imagine.
But that can be a challenge of our own!
Would love to have you on the team.
Send me a message on Discord: datalioness
Maybe we can figure something out.

Heya Caleb, I'd love to work together with a small group of people! (About 5/6)
Level Design would definitely be useful as this is not my strong suite.

Heey my name is Damy!
And I'd love to work in a team this year so I'm trying to gather some people willing to work together!
You want to create a cool game? And have some experience in Unreal Engine 5? You can fit right in!

I'm technical game designer and gameplay programmer.
Last year I made a game on my own: https://datalioness.itch.io/disconnected

It got an honorable mention at kenney gamejam 2024!

I want to be using Unreal Engine 5.
Here is my portfolio btw: https://thedatalioness.github.io

At this is so cool!
Yeah idk what else to say to be honest.
Great job!

Add me on Discord: datalioness

No, Unreal Engine

Oh definitely you can check my game out!

I'd love to get some feedback as well!

Yeah I worked on this alone.

Completely agree, my level design skills aren't the best. I think I did improve when making the last level.
But yeah the other 2 levels that I made were a bit meh (The first 2 being essential for introduction purposes)

I totally agree!
I'm sad I only figured out this cool level design idea 3 hours before the deadline when I speedran the entirety of the last level.
I honestly think I want to improve my level design skills and learn that by expanding on this game.
Thank you for your feedback!

I really love this! AI kept beating me in that arcade level tho grrr. I guess I gotta practice more!

I'd really like to add levels.
My current favorite level is level 5.
Level 1 & 2 are just there for introduction so they're also needed.
But I do not like level 3 & 4.
Level 3 is a bit too linear and level 4 is a bit confusing.
For this game level design was definitely the hardest challenge and I finally only understood what I could do with the mechanics I have when making Level 5 so I've got a couple more ideas for new levels that I'd like to try out.
For more mechanics I'm not sure what I'd like to add.
I had 1 more idea with enemies where they would be walking around on the same path and with the perspective of your camera you could already see them while your character might not even see it yet.

Thank you a lot! 💜

Heya I'm Damy!
I'm a 21 year old game programming student, I've got experience in Unreal Engine and have been working with it for a bit over a year now.
I've also written custom game engines but I don't plan on using that for this game jam.
Apart from being a programmer I also love game design, specifically system design.

I'm looking for a team because I prefer working in teams rather than solo.
Programmers, Game Designers, or any other people who would like to help work on a game together.

For my University I've worked on a couple of games one of them is listed on itch.io.
- ORTUS: https://buas.itch.io/team-cumin

I've also attended 2 jams 1 organized within my university for students and 1 was the Global Game Jam 2024 which was also organized at my university.
- WolFish: https://spel16.itch.io/wolfish
- Cataboom (Global Game Jam 2024): https://datalioness.itch.io/cataboom

I'm most experienced with Unreal Engine so I'd like to work with this as well.
So if there are other enthusiasts out there willing to work together for this gamejam do reach out to me on here, Discord or Twitter.

In the meantime we DID add keyboard and mouse support in the latest 1.0.1 version! Go check it out! And don't forget to leave a rating.

I played the game for over half an hour just now.
I had about 1 million score and then no worms spawned anymore.
Making me not be able to continue the game which was very sad.

This will be added soon! =D
Stay tuned!

I really love the game you guys have created, the music & sound effects really helped with those spooky vibes. And the gameplay itself was also terrifying (I'm not a big fan of horror games) but I did really like this.

Its weird because screensharing on Discord does detect it.
Which is something that uses the same approach on detecting windows I guess but that's apparently is not true.

Was made with C++ with a custom engine I've had to build on top and modify a bit for an intake for a school I'm applying for.
That engine template can be found on: https://www.3dgep.com

Had that issue as well and just captured my screen and later on cropped it to make those gifs I added to this page.
