Run and jump across 46 stages in 7 different hub worlds!
I'm not a huge collectathon guy. Don't get me wrong, Banjo Kazooie rocks, and there is plenty of that in this game's DNA. I just... Sometimes feel like collecting things gets in the way of the actual game's platforming. I wanted the game to have plenty of exploration, but for the main focus of the game to be a tight level-by-level kind of experience. Inside of each hub world are 5 linear levels and one challenge to collect the red stars (read: mguffins).
I love Mario 3D World dearly, but feel like each level is not distinct enough from the previous. In that sense, I tried to give more sense of a "world". The levels are "extensions" of that world! I want you to be able to chill out in the hub zones and enjoy the vibes!
In terms of the levels, I try to really mix things up on a level-to-level basis. Stages in Mario 3 often have a "theme" to them. Sometimes levels will be more about platforming on moving platforms, sometimes you have a more enemy centric stage, and sometimes there's a more gimmicky stage. I tried to do similar things. You may recognize some gimmicks "inspired" by the Donkey Kong Country games (but no the annoying ones lol). I think there's a lot of really fun and creative ideas in a lot of 2D platformers that just never got translated to 3D ones - so I tried!
The game is "finished" but still making plenty of improvements all the time. Many have been made already, and I expect to make many more, so don't be scared to message me about feedback you have!
Everything in the game was done by me, except for a few sound effects. I'm predominantly actually a music guy, so definitely hit me up if you'd like me to do some music for your project!
