Nice... got an 18 early n but had a hard time beating it.

Simple game but fun!

Very nice. I need more ammo though.

007

Agreed. Audio would have made it much better, but other projects demanded the time available. Apologies.

He is known as "the Shadow of Death", so he is not cheating, he just good.

AppGameKit made that easy for me.

I assumed that most people would understand the instructions being given to them in the message dialogs, and therefore would not need redundant information in the description page.

Those are not steps to run the game, they are part of the game...ie.... user name input.

I have no control over the way Google Chrome handles or highlights the information in the message dialogs. So, if there is a problem with the message being displayed, then the problem is in the browser, not the game.

If you have cookies enabled for your browser, then you should not be required to enter you name again, as you will be recognized automatically in the future.

Are you using a mobile device or PC?

I have only tested using Mozilla's FireFox (version 78.0.2) on Windows 7 PC

I have had one other user saying that they were having issues with the text input for their name when using Google Chrome, so if you try it using FireFox, then you should have better results.

"When exporting to HTML5 note that web browsers limit which servers you can connect to. By default you are limited to files hosted by the same server as your app. However if the server sends an Access-Control-Allow-Origin header in its response that allows your app's server, then the browser will let you connect to it."

This must be why the multiplayer is not working here at itch.io, but it is working on the server that is hosting the PHP script that accompanies this game. (sorry about that, but you can play the NPCs here)

Sounds and graphics were typically created in code back in those days too, rather than using external image and sound files which is the common practice today.

Back then, we had very limited memory to work with, so coding the graphics and sounds are a great way to keep your file sizes very low.

Of course, that is taking it to the extreme, but it is doable if you have the time.

My entry is an example of that although is was previously published, hence the quick submission.

With a month for this Jam, you might want to explore that option for a great learning experience if you have never tried it.

"You're a pessimistic person!"

Perhaps, but that is subjective.

An awareness of global issues is not an indication of optimism or pessimism,

Perhaps I am optimistically trying to find positive solutions to negative issues that surround us.

I respect your opinion of me though, either way, regardless of its accuracy/inaccuracy of my intentions. I have been called a lot worse. lol ;)

On a side note though, about optimism/pessimism: Negative criticism shows a lot more room for improvement than positive praise. Therefore, one must consider the negative aspects of life in order to achieve its full positive potential.
