Thanks for the details. I’m working on improving the completion detection logic now, especially for cases like the “3” stage where the correct placement can still fail to register.

That makes sense, thanks for the suggestion.
Basing the price on filled board slots instead of total purchases would probably make the system feel less punishing, especially after deleting components. I’ll look into changing the pricing logic that way.
Moving purchased components on the board is also a good point. Right now placement is too final, so I agree that some kind of move/reposition feature would make experimentation much better.
Yeah, I should probably make that much clearer.
Deleting components is mainly meant to free up board space for better combinations, not as a way to recover money. Right now it does not refund any currency, so selling everything can softlock the run if you can’t afford another component.
I’ll add a warning/tutorial hint for that.

Hi everyone,
I just released HanGrid 0.2.0 on itch.io.
Play here: https://chunq.itch.io/hangrid
HanGrid is a browser-based incremental puzzle game about Chinese character components. You buy radicals/components, place them on a 5x5 grid, and discover valid Chinese characters through adjacency.
Examples:
亻 + 木 = 休
氵 + 古 + 月 = 湖
Completed character combinations become stronger income engines, while standalone components provide basic income.
This update focuses on making the first few minutes easier to understand:
- cleaner minimalist UI
- pronunciation audio when clicking components
- tutorial guidance
- possible combinations now highlight when selecting a component
- placement animation
- clearer colors for upgraded components
The game is still an early prototype. I’m especially interested in feedback on onboarding, clarity, and whether the Chinese character composition mechanic is understandable for players who don’t read Chinese.
