book is good! it's not traditionally "my thing", so i was surprised at how much i enjoyed it. i'm not great with words and don't usually appreciate poetry or horror-tragedies. and medieval fantasy is my least favorite setting, but the one medieval story was a standout to me. i am one for brevity, and all the stories are paced well and worth re-reading.
finally got round to reading this. everyone's commented on the format/presentation but it really is outstanding. putting video game maze navigation in a comic- backtracking to familiar panels, going round in loops and tangents, and thinking "i've seen everything, time to go on the Main Path" is such a unique idea, and represents inhabiting someone's Thoughts better than any comic i've seen before. i'd love to see this become a genre.
as for the story itself, no clue what to take from it! i thought i Got it until the very end confused me. was a fun time though.
the 1-bit photos were hard to parse and so after the first few i gave up trying to figure out what they're actually photos Of.
this has a really neat vibe. i can't say i understood it but i'm interested to see where it goes! the purchasable items seem superfluous- they're all healing items or equipment, and the single fight is more of a story event. seems like the kind of game that doesn't need a combat system to me, but maybe it'll be more involved in the full game?
I really do like this game after trying it. I didn't like the early dialogue and just tried to do side quests for the sake of earning cards, but once the game gets going and the town opens up it won me over. Starting with the frogs, but particularly once you've done yoga and had your picture taken.
Earning cards is fun and encourages you to do the rpg Talk To Everyone. There's a day-night cycle but no time limit, people move about, and there's fun and unexpected ways of interacting with them.
There's a good variety of minigames, *mostly* optional, mostly rhythmic, always just using the arrows and one button. I don't like all of them, but I love some of them and don't hate any, which yknow is more than you can say for most minigame-focused games. I had a few minor problems, like there's a bit of the (very funny) Poster minigame where it seemed to tell me to go left, but I actually had to go up. If you can't do timing action commands then you can't play this game, which is something to know going into an RPG.
There's also a good amount of Background Lore that I don't pay attention to but I'm sure someone would enjoy. maybe you. I support the taxi drivers going on strike? Good for them?
It's a good game! thank you for making it :)
In a bundle with Night in the Woods, Tonight We Riot and Anarcuties, it's impressive that you made the most radical game :D. I've never played Tony Hawk but it didn't take me too long to get it and I had a lot of fun! I bet someone more skilled than me can do some real crazy stuff chaining magic together. It didn't look like you can save, but it's not too long so it's nbd.
I recently got into nonograms/picross, it's a cool novel idea, and any game where you play as a frog is cute. The difficulty does seem to vary a lot, one level might require using a combination of picross hints and minesweeper hints and take a while, and the next might have a path of "zero" mine tiles from the start to the goal, so it doesn't require any puzzling at all. looking forward to seeing what's added in the future!
It's a nice Sokoban like game, and I'm always impressed by anything made in as short a time frame as a ludum dare entry, but I was a little disappointed to read the comment that mentioned the game is an adaptation of another game. I looked up a video and this game is essentially a remake of Pegs with new aesthetics and levels. I think if you're going to remake a game this closely, the original should at least be mentioned on the store page or in-game credits. (according to the video, it's from the PuzzPack by Detached Solutions, and its main developer was Fred Coughlin). Also, the original said "Nice pegging!" when you completed a level, which is funny in a juvenile way and i wish was in this version. There's a suggestion for iego DX.
glad to hear so many other people did this.
the simple gameplay with collage art style reminded me of the best of warioware, and the combination of that, something Relatable, and a little bit of Serious Thinking really makes it feel "complete" for something so simple.
at first i thought there was no penalty for colliding, which made sense, since when you did this as a kid, the landscape would keep moving regardless of whether your imaginary character collided or not.
i recommend playing when you're really tired or dissociating for the authentic feeling.
