That was a great demo! The art was very cute. I really like the cliffhanger, it made me want to know what's going on and what will happen next, and I want to know what August's deal is. Great work team!

That. Was. Amazing. What an incredible submission! The art is all absolutely gorgeous with fantastic character designs, the voice actors were so fun and perfect for their roles, the music was beautiful (especially the final song!), story was brilliant, loved the dialogue options so much. Just bravo!! Great job team!!!
The visuals on this game were really stunning! Fantastic colour combo, the backgrounds were really cool and I really loved the character art. Really awesome style. The phone was really cool. The game was great at giving a sense of growing anxiety and discomfort, and I liked both endings depending on your final choice at the end. Great work team!!
This was a wonderful and eerie submission that left me curious for more. The artstyle is very cute, except for the Eyes obviously which were a creepy and dramatic style change that were great at making me feel like they were some otherworldly being. I enjoyed the cozy intro that lulls you into a sense of security before things suddenly intensify. Loved the music, it was really enjoyable to listen to and set the tone really well. UI design was also lovely.
Great job team! I'd love to see this fleshed out further :)
Spoiler things I'd love to see if you do any future updates:
What's Jules history with that step-brother and the church?
What's that demon guys deal? Why is he targeting Jules?
Who are the Eyes??
What did Jules turn into?
What does the demon guy do to Jules once Adelaide passes!?!?!
So many great mysteries have been teased :)
This game was extremely fun! It was very well written, the artwork is gorgeous, voice acting was on point, music enjoyable. I immediately suspected the murderer, but I thought "surely I wouldn't figure it out that quickly" and I had to play through and get it wrong like 3 times before I got it right haha. I would really appreciate a save button, or some way to not have to speedrun the entire game again and again to re-accuse until you get it right.
Great job team!!
A very beautiful and fun game! The visuals (character art, background art, animated CGs and UI design) are absolutely fantastic and some of the best I've seen so far. The music was very fitting and I enjoyed it a lot. I'm intrigued by the mystery of everyone's history and intentions. Rhys was my fav. I really hope you finish this game because I'm keen to find out how it all goes down!
Only problem I had was the same as everyone else - the font. While it's a beautiful font, the lack of punctuation in the font itself really threw me off unfortunately. I hope you can find something that's a similar vibe but more readable.
Great job team!!
This was a really enjoyable game! I loved all the art and CGs. Nicasio was a great character. I got the Washed Away ending, but I'd like to go back and play again to see the other endings. The music helped set the tone really well. The writing was good at making me feel nervous around the family and curious about what was up with them. Great job team!
You could perhaps just turn down the volume of the Mordecai song down in the code (set it to like volume 0.1 or something when it plays) and use a free program like Audacity to try boosting Leah's volume on her voice files, that might help without the need of an audio engineer if you have the time :) I otherwise wouldn't stress about it, it was great! Good luck in the jam.
The artwork is beautiful, the UI design is very impressive. Loved the music. Fun story idea, I'd like to see how things go down on October 31st.
I think a bit of a bug happened for me where Alice's art disappeared for a while (between the bullying scene and just before she spoke in the meeting.)
Great work team!
Loved the artwork, great music choices and voice acting. The plot twist was fun and creepy and I enjoyed both endings.
The only issue I had was the volume regarding the music and voice acting. When music appeared while Mordecai was talking, Mordecais voice got really drowned out. And Leahs audio seemed really quiet in comparison to everyone else, I basically had to turn off the music to hear her voice properly.
Besides that, fantastic work team!
Thank you so much for your thoughtful feedback and for giving our game a chance! As for your issues, I will firstly offer a blanket admission - We were working at break-neck speed and had to surrender some of the frames to the god of necessity.
1- This was the first scene we ever put together, I really dislike almost everything about it and agree about the lighting. We're constantly updating the game and intend to go over some of the things we're unhappy with before the full episode 2 release.
2- You know, my counterpart dev very much agrees with you on this one.
3-4- Yeah. I think there are so many little things I will be fixing up in the coming weeks. Thanks for pointing them out.
Overall, as new devs, we just tried to play to our strengths, which were the visuals, design and hopefully the writing. I'm so glad to see you responded to those aspects. As for our research, we really did consult a handful of books I happened to have in my library as well as various online resources. We wanted accuracy but not at the expense of the stories needs. We had hoped that anyone familiar with ceremonial magick would be surprised by the authenticity of the ritual. Thanks again for taking the time to play!
This was a really fun game! I really enjoyed the art style, it's very unique and creative with some fantastic and varied drawings. The dialogue is enjoyable to read, and the music and sfx are fantastic and really set the tone. I especially loved the candy wrapper sound effects, they gave me the heebiejeebies. I like how the game dropped enough hints about what you needed to do to uncover the mystery, but didn't hold your hand. The timer on the trick-or-treaters was fun and added tension while exploring the area for clues. The options menu being all sideways was funny.
My only issues:
- Would love a save function
- The timer and XXX in the UI covered the book/letters that I discovered, so I couldn't quite read the text in the upper right corner. I was able to fill the gaps in well enough to get what was being said, though.
- I feel like the candy inspection could do with being a bit more deceptive/difficult. I felt like I could almost entirely judge them on smell alone, with an additional squeeze test for squishyness just to be sure. It made visually inspecting them feel pointless. I would've loved to find one that smelled normal and wasn't soft, but when you open the magnifying glass - it's gross. If there are any like that in the game, I didn't happen to find any.
Fantastic work :)
I feel as though my comments would be starkly different if I'd played this game muted. As it stands, the quality of the audio and in particular, the narrator, has pushed all other thoughts aside for me. This game is like listening to a high quality audiobook with choices, great prose, and wonderful delivery. It's very different from all the games I've played so far. It's really made quite the impression on me. Well done guys.
Thanks so much for the great comment! We really appreciate how much you liked the music choices and Lenore. We actually originally did have some more choices earlier on, but they weren't working for us so we removed them. All of our choices will significantly alter the plot for the endings, but you'll have to see in Part 2 how it all plays out! :) We look forward to hearing what you think of Part 2.
The visuals in this game are bursting with creativity and pulled me right in as early as the thumbnail. The illustrations, typography and backgrounds are all singular and captivating. A scratchy rawness mixed with anachronistic pixelation to create something wholly unique to my experience of visual novels so far. Got the true love ending. Great fun.
Really love the painted backgrounds, every scene feels lived in and engaging. I seem to be encountering a bug during the plugs mini-game. They sometimes just wont go into the sockets and then end up stuck to my mouse cursor and end up going out of bounds. I've tried a couple of times. Maybe I'm doing something wrong? I'm looking forward to finishing this one, thanks!
