I really liked this game. Good job.

The Realm is fracturing.

The Wandering Blade — the legendary sword of the Realm's first king — was shattered into five fragments during the Sundering War. Without it, the old alliances crumble, monsters roam unchecked, and the towns at the edges of the world slowly go dark. You are a lone wanderer. Find the fragments. Reforge the Blade. Hold the Realm together.

Chronicles of the Wandering Blade is a browser-based solo hexcrawl RPG. No download, no installation, no account required. Open it in your browser and start playing in under a minute. It runs entirely as a single HTML file, which means it works on any device — desktop or mobile — with nothing standing between you and the game.

What is a hexcrawl?

A hexcrawl is a style of RPG exploration where the world is divided into hexagonal tiles, each one a small territory with its own terrain, dangers, and secrets. You move from hex to hex, managing your resources, fighting enemies, completing quests, and slowly uncovering a world that is larger and stranger than it first appears. Every decision about where to go next carries weight. Food runs out. Injuries accumulate. Night falls, and the things that hunt in the dark are not the same as the ones you face at noon.

Chronicles of the Wandering Blade takes that classic format and delivers it as a clean, fast, fully self-contained browser game that you can pick up for twenty minutes or lose an entire afternoon to.

Features

The World

  • Procedurally generated 20x20 hex map — every run produces a different world
  • Eight distinct biomes: plains, forest, mountain, swamp, desert, coast, ruins, and towns
  • Threat levels that scale with distance from your starting town — the further you explore, the more dangerous and rewarding the world becomes
  • Points of interest scattered across the map, each with a chance of loot, story, or danger
  • Random world events and hex arrival encounters that keep exploration unpredictable
  • A day and watch time cycle with morning, afternoon, evening, and night phases, each affecting encounter rates and travel

The Hero

  • Four playable classes: Fighter, Rogue, Ranger, and Mage, each with a distinct playstyle and stat profile
  • Deep skill trees with approximately 64 skills across all classes, each with real mechanical effects on combat, movement, crafting, and survival
  • One skill point per level up, with two free points at the start — every choice matters
  • Food and hunger management, injury system, and equipment that changes how you fight
  • Three difficulty modes affecting enemy strength, loot availability, and survival upkeep

Combat

  • Turn-based combat with a pre-combat information screen showing enemy stats, descriptions, and your estimated hit chance before you commit to fighting
  • Combat stances that change your attack and defence profile each round
  • Special enemy abilities including bleed, stun, and armour crush
  • Neutral creature encounters with a moral choice: attack for loot or spare the creature for experience
  • A full range of consumables — healing potions, poisons, torches, antidotes — that can turn the tide

Quests

  • Overarching main quest to recover five blade fragments, each located in a unique multi-room vault with two guardian encounters and a final boss
  • Fragment locations marked on your map when discovered through exploration, NPC encounters, or town rumours
  • Dynamic side quest system including bounty hunting, item fetching, boss slaying, and timed delivery quests
  • Quest directions that always match the actual terrain on the map
  • NPC wild encounters on the road that can offer quests, clues, or bounties
  • Town noticeboards with randomly generated quests tied to real locations in the world

Towns and Economy

  • Multiple towns scattered across the map, each with a merchant, noticeboard, and randomly generated stock
  • Loot type system: coins go straight to your purse, trade goods and sellables must be fenced at a shop
  • Enemy-specific drops — bandits drop stolen goods, wolves drop pelts, undead drop bone fragments, and so on
  • Rest, resupply, and regroup between expeditions

Exploration and Survival

  • Biome-specific actions: hunt in forests, mine in mountains, fish on the coast, gather herbs in swamps, scavenge in deserts, scout the plains, and delve into ruins
  • Each biome action available once per hex per day, resetting at dawn
  • Camping, foraging, and torch management for night travel
  • Cartography and scouting skills that reveal the map ahead of you

The Technical Bit

  • Runs entirely in a single HTML file — no frameworks, no servers, no external dependencies beyond fonts
  • Auto-saves to your browser so you can close the tab and return exactly where you left off
  • Fully playable on desktop and mobile with layouts built for both
  • Save file integrity checks that repair corrupt data on load

Early Access

This is an early access release. The core game loop is complete and fully playable from start to finish — explore the world, build your hero, find all five fragments, and reforge the Wandering Blade. What you are playing is a real, finished experience, not a demo or a prototype.

That said, there is more to come. Planned additions include expanded town NPCs, more world events, multi-enemy combat, additional random encounters, weather with mechanical effects, and starting traits at character creation.

Feedback is genuinely welcome. If you find a bug, hit a strange edge case, or have a thought about the design, please leave a comment. This game is being built in the open and your experience matters.

Play it now. The Blade won't reforge itself.

Note that this game is still in a very early access phase for free on Itch.  Our goal is to get as much feedback as possible from the community, to get it polished, and improved before we launch it as a full game.  We are not askiing any money for the game, but ask for you to please join our Discord to give us some feedback, good or bad:
