Late to the party, but just got 100%! Really fun and challenging, on to part 2 next

Who knows, maybe Empty Game 3 will make a surprise appearance!

I was going to join the Game Jam, but I'm going to be leaving for vacation for almost the entire time the Jam is live lol.

Work in a team

Are there any specific reasons why Rift Invaders and The Aftermath won? I want to know what I need to improve on in future Jam submissions

oh lol

thx

Any idea when they'll be judged?

The hosts of the Game Jam are able to publish the games, so when they are judging they won't have this problem. Plus is the past Jams games were permanently published for about a week or so

The link to the game is https://www.modd.io/play/CosmicVoyage

You need to come up with a game idea, code it, make art for it, balance it, fix bugs, and make a thumbnail. Then all of that has to be done in spare time. So unless you're encouraging people to make rushed and unfinished games it takes a lot longer than 5 hours.

Just curious how are everyone's games going, I haven't really seen much talk about the Jam. Plus I'm starting to worry that my game wont be finished in time and wanted to know if anyone else felt the same.

The previous record of the highest number of people who joined Game Jams was 67, and now it's 101 lol. Good luck to everyone participating

We're still allowed to use old art assets though right? If we can't use old assets are assets from games that were never published ok?

If you have multiple game ideas that you think are equally good I'd go with the one you think is the most original and least likely to be done by other people

I know it's small but how come there isn't a thumbnail or background for the itch.io page. All the past official Jams used the same thumbnail and background, so why not this one?

I felt the same way, I had planned to incorporate more cooperative features into the final battle. Unfortunately too much time was spent on the soundtrack, so due to time constraints those features had to be scrapped. However I will be taking all of this feedback into consideration when releasing the full version of the game.

Just wanted to say good luck to everyone participating!

Even though you are allowed to submit multiple games it doesn't mean you should focus on trying to make as many games as possible. The main reason being quality over quantity.

Cause even if you submit 10 games it doesn't increase your chance of winning, it just means the 10 games you spent 3 days on each will most likely be a worse quality game compared to 1 game someone spent a month on. I recommend making 2 or 3 games max, that way you still have a decent amount of time to work on each of them.

If that happened people could think of game ideas before the theme would be announced, which somewhat ruins the point of a game jam

Cause I want to make sure enough people are ready for another one before trying to make it official

I figured that by the time the game jam starts it will have been long enough to do another one, but I'm waiting for maybe like 5-6 people to join before asking mino to announce it in the discord

Now that the game making time is over & the games are being judged I'm curious who everyone thinks will win

No, you can only make 1 game. Also if you have contributors in your game that counts as their game entry too

Yep, it's exactly what they said

There was some miscommunication about what the prize of this jam is. Although I'm the voice of the jam I'm not the one giving out the money, so I had misunderstood what the prize amount was. Sorry, but I hope you still enjoy the Game Jam!

I hope that updating the cover before the games were judged doesn't get me disqualified. Still I'm just glad that I got tier 2 and just wanted to share that

This Game Jam is ranked, if you go to your "Jams Joined" if you look at the bottom of the modd.io one it says "Ranked", so yes it will show the placements for all the games

My game had gotten fairly popular when I published it for bug testing, so I plan to keep working on it after the game jam. I just want to know when the judging will be over so I can update the game without going over the time limit

Yea it's fine, some points might be taken off though a majority of the games submitted so far aren't suspenseful anyways.

Even though I think I'm making a good game with the theme, I still don't like the theme. The main problem with it is there isn't much room for creativity, cause the theme gives few possible game genres you can do (RPG, Horror, Puzzle, maybe a few more). A good theme should work with many game genres,  but "suspenseful adventure" is too specific. Thats how I personally feel about the game theme

How many people fell for the link?

Turns out Itch.io has some weird bug where the page won't update unless you go to a specific url of the page. Anyways just use this and you should be fine

Just wanted to say good luck to everyone participating in the game jam! Also I dare someone to post a brains.io clone as their game lol
