Hi All! Please note that (if you haven’t experienced this already) there’s currently a bug with the combat system that can cause a crash-to-desktop when a fight starts. Oddly, this bug does not happen reliably, meaning that a fight that crashes the game once will rarely crash it the next time. This unfortunately is making the bug difficult to track and understand, so I’d ask two things of you all while you’re playing:
- Save often. That’s the important thing. Especially in areas with a lot of random encounters.
- If you encounter any crashes like this, report them here or in the bug-reports channel on the Discord. When reporting a crash, include as many details as you can remember, such as:
- What enemy or enemies you were facing
- What map you were on
- Time put into the current playthrough
- Whether it’s an old (prior to current update) save file or a brand new one
- What you were doing directly before the fight happened
- If possible, roughly how many fights you went through between loading up the game and experiencing the crash.
- Anything else you think might be relevant.
If it helps, this crash is almost certainly tied to the Yanfly_Battle script (the one that changes the UI in battle), and it’s possibly due to a conflict between that and another script. I believe I attempted to add Yanfly_Battle in a previous update but experienced a very similar bug to this, and at that point I concluded that it wasn’t worth the headache to keep the script in the game. But since a better battle UI has been something people have been asking for, and I really enjoy how the new UI works (crashes aside), I’m going to put up more of a fight this time in working to get to the root of the issue so the script can stay in the game, if at all possible. By tracking where, when, and how often the crash occurs, I’m hoping to get enough information to start taking more educated guesses at where the conflict is, and/or if the bug can be avoided through changing something unrelated to the scripts themselves.
Thanks for your patience with this! My goal is to put out a bugfix patch that attempts to address the issue within a week or two, depending on how much information I can gather between now and then. In the meantime, save often, and let me know if you experience the bug (or alternatively, if you’ve gone through an entire playthrough and haven’t experienced it, as that’s also helpful info.) Cheers!
