I have a small budget for the initial phase of the project. I'm looking to create a playable demo.

Apologies, this is only my second time posting on itch.io. You can reach me at:

Gig Work

Genre: Narrative Survival / Time-Management RPG

Platform: PC (Steam / Itch.io)

You think you’re playing a time-management game about delivering food to save up $1,800 for an anime convention. You’re actually playing a narrative survival RPG about the crushing weight of the gig economy, the reality of burnout, and the radical act of choosing

community over capitalism.

1. The Core Gameplay Loop Players manage 13 in-game weeks of the summer. The daily loop consists of:

  • The Hustle: Accepting or declining delivery gigs via the "Sprint" app. Factoring in payout vs. gas costs, car degradation, and time limits.
  • The Drain: Every action costs Stamina, Health, or Mental Health.
  • The Encounters: Navigating micro-encounters with customers using communication mechanics like Setting Boundaries and Conflict Resolution to protect your stats.
  • The Maintenance: Spending hard-earned cash on car repairs (brakes, tires, engine), food, rent, and interacting with core characters.

2. The Narrative & Branching Systems The story is driven by three competing resources:

Capital, Health, and Community.

The player builds relationships with 4 core characters (Rhonda, Rose, Vera, PB) who have complex, diverging storylines

  • Time spent helping friends is time not spent earning money.
  • The game features 6 distinct endings based on whether the player hits their $1,800 goal, maintains their sobriety, and keeps their friends alive and housed.

3. Current State of the Project

  • The full narrative architecture is complete.
  • All 13-week branching paths for the 4 core characters are mapped.
  • The mathematical models for the gig economy, car degradation, drug dependence curves, and player stat drains are roughly balanced in spreadsheets.

4. What I Need I am looking for partners to help build a Vertical Slice (playable demo):

I have a small budget for this phase of the project.

  • 1x Unity/C# Programmer to build the 2D UI, the stat-tracking systems, and the dialogue tree logic. I have built some of the logic if that would be helpful.
  • 1x 2D Artist to design the UI interfaces (phone screen, map) and initial character sprites. I have examples for 2 characters with ideas for the other 2.

5. In the Future

I’m looking for a partner to build something beautiful. I have far exceeded my own scope and would love to find people that would enjoy creating something they would enjoy playing.

I am new to game dev and wanted to get some opinions on my models. They are very low poly lol but I learned a lot about topology and UV editing so I had a good time. If you would like a few free low-poly fast food assets let me know. ^~^ I would really appreciate the feedback.
