Thanks! I'm falling in love with Pico-8.

Once the game jam is over, I hope to update the game to make it easier to know what to do next. The current game play loop is:

1. Pick up items by standing near and face the item and pressing X.
2. Place items on the middle conveyor belt by standing near it, face it, and pressing X.
3. Move the items on the middle conveyor belt to the mixer by pressing the orange button by standing near it, face it, and pressing X.
4. Mix the items into a batter (what I believe you are referring to as validating the order) by pressing the green button by standing near it, face it, and pressing X.
5. Freeze the batter by rapidly pressing the blue button by standing near it, face it, and pressing X - while keeping the pressure bar in the green zone.

The color of the the word "Mix" changes to green and to blue to indicate which button to press. If you mess up the mixture, the word "Mix changes to red to indicate to use the red button to reset it. The brown buttons change the speed of the conveyor belts. To use a factory button, stand near it, face it, and press X on the keyboard or controller.

Thanks for the feedback! It's one of those scenarios where working in isolation warps your perception of the difficulty level while developing the game. I meant for the first shifts (rounds) to be longer to give you more time to play around with the buttons, but I uploaded an earlier iteration with shorter shifts. I would like to build a better tutorial for the game too. I plan to update the game using the feedback from this game jam - making the game more intuitive and improving the tutorial.
