It's all good. I want to do it so that you could maybe give me some pointers in terms of the quality of the assets(optimization, texture quality etc).

I'm busy with my own assets as well, for the multiplayer project.

Yeah, I was referring to that extra boost the player gets when swimming in a curvy motion. It works if I move left or right and use the W and S keys. But it doesn't seem to work if the player moves up or down and uses the A and D keys.

Awesome!. I'll try to send you some assets as soon as I can.

I hope you make some progress. I, on the other hand. made so little progress yesterday.

Oh Okay. It's not only cool but awesome.

Did you make any decent progress on SeaCrit today?

I actually had to jump back into the game to check out the area you're referring to. Is it the area where you talk about your backstory?

Also, I've noticed that when I swim up or down, I don't seem to get the same speed boost as when swimming left or right(using the swimming motion,W and S). Is that a design choice?

XD, If you ever need help creating assets. Just let me know!. Probably not character art(I’m terrible at making characters). I’d be happy to help, although I might not quite meet your standards 😅.

Really looking forward to those new zones!

Thanks for the advice!

Got it.

What!? Bioshock is probably one of my most beloved game series of all time. That was a scummy move on their end. I love the art style as well.

I liked Days Gone but I never got to finish the game.

Do you mostly use the old particle system or do you use vfx graph?

XD.

Dude. This is amazing. You haven't even shared any lore yet. Now I need this next build to come as soon as possible!

How many different zones/regions do you intend to have within the next build?

Also when it comes to bosses, Do you intend to use mythological creatures as bosses as well?

How are you going to balance the benchmarks and scores to the black pearl drops/rewards? Is it more so like modern day gaming where you get maybe one or two perk points per battle or do you perhaps have a more intricate way in which you will reward the player?

Just finished your article. Dude. That's some great writing and knowledge that you've shared.

I see you've mentioned that you've been apart of mod teams in your profile. I'm tackling the talent trees and mod teams articles later today. what have you worked on ? Do you follow the skyblivion team and the efforts as well ?

Yeah, I'm already subscribed to Jonas. I  like the way he can break things down.

Thank You for the advice.it helps a ton! I know that you've been toiling away at SeaCrit but as I've said before, your game feels great. I love the stylized assets and art style.Also. The gameplay is top tier..  I know people will love the game.

I do have a lot of questions to ask but I don't want to bombard you with them XD.

You've touched on a lot of topics that I was thinking about. scale/scope especially. The Multiplayer game is kind of a test run. I wanted to learn a bit more about it since I see that multiplayer games are booming these days. I do love single player games more though

But the types of games that I love vary in scale alot and that is probably where I struggle the most. number 1 on that list would be survival type games. I have tried scaling it down in so many aspects but it still bloats. Games like frost punk or Surviving Mars,Anno, or even the first person stuff like the forest, subnautica ,The Long Dark. The gameplay mechanics are great but these are not ideal for a solo dev.

I think I am asking the right guy because you have a game that you're passionate about and that is what I like. I don't want to make a game just because it's trendy.

Oh. How modular should a system be before it becomes too modular? Also. How would one prioritize mechanics in a game that is exploration heavy?

XD I hate to admit it, but I always end up as a stealth archer in Skyrim. I don't know why I can't get a solid battlemage build going in Skyrim, even though that is my go-to build in Daggerfall. I recently picked up Morrowind because a lot of folks say it's the best in the series. I haven't played it yet since I'm currently playing Elden Ring.

I learn a lot from your blogs. You share so much wisdom, and your game is great! Your honesty about your daily struggles is motivating, especially because you always seem to figure things out in the end.

I have a hard drive full of half-baked projects because I’m too stupid to focus on gameplay first. But after playing your game last year, I made a decision to prioritize gameplay above all else. (It’s still tough. Whenever I get something working, I immediately want to jump into Blender to make assets.)

Do you have any more game dev wisdom to share? I recently started working on a multiplayer game. I’ve never made one before. I've only worked on single-player stuff, and even then, it was mostly asset creation. I’m slowly making progress, but man. There's so much stuff to do, and I haven’t even started on the 3D assets yet!

That's great to hear. Are you planning on releasing a new build soon?

That's a great idea. The game has a really good feel to it so if you amplify it with your current idea, I'm sure it will be awesome. When will we get to see a new build. Have you added any more abilities to player? .If you don't mind me asking. what does the progression look like for the player?

I saw someone mention on X the other day that they hate the idea of the enemies scaling with player power. And I have to agree.

XD. I love these blog posts of yours man.XD.

How's the game coming along ?
I hope you're doing well.

Nah it ain't boring. I can normally watch the ones that are between 30min to 1hr. but the ones that are way over that I can't get through fully. I watch it because there are things that I actually learn from it.

Your devlogs and your posts on X are quite helpful.

That would be an honor. If that is okay with you, then by all means you may do so.

I guess you could use my name.Antonio. This way I can be eternally part of the great game SeaCrit.

The game you're building is really good and I hope you don't look down on yourself too much. It's one thing to criticise and look inward but another to discourage ourselves. The video you linked has once again shown the fluid movement and fun gameplay you have.

Also. Are you planning on going for a pc and android release at the same time. Do you find building for android more tedious ? I remember one of my first 3D projects I made for android was so unoptimized I just canned it.

I always read your devlogs even though I don't comment on them.

I think we all push ourselves a bit too hard when it comes to gamedev. I've recently been thinking of working on a project. Maybe go through my old ones and pick one up.

It's great to hear that you've been making a lot of progress.I've always wanted to ask. Will it be a seamless world or will you be breaking it up into different locations, kinda like hungry shark evolution does it?

Hello!. How are you ? When will we be getting that new build ? I hope that you're going to get some work done today.I've seen in your devlogs the new area you've been working on and I just wanted to know when we'll be able to play a new build.I hope you're doing well and can't wait to try out a new build.

I meant I saw it in one of your older videos(the pink sharks),Either that or I was probably a bit more red.or my eyes were deceiving me. I'll try and find the post and link it.

Demo Play for SeaCrit the whimsical Roguelite (youtube.com)

The world definitely has become a lot more crazier. We can't let that get to us though. I think every developer needs some confidence. I myself struggle with it. I don't post about 90% of my projects(environments or just props) because I'm just that insecure. Alot of people want to become succesful as solo indie devs and like hearing about those kinds of stories because they can somewhat relate. I'm more for putting my trust in God no matter one's circumstances.

Watching your videos gives me confidence as it shows that you keep on working on your game even when you don't feel like it.I think games like SeaCrit can and will succeed. I think what makes it harder is just that marketing one's game is just a whole different beast to tackle.Which is why I hope that you continue to work on your game and get that demo out within a month or so(or atleast when you feel confident enough with the demo that'll convey your game in the way you want it to).Once you have that you can start showing it more to others. You already sold me on your game.

If you don't mind me asking.

How long do you think it'll take to get a demo out?

How long would take then to get the game over the finish line ?

When it comes to the bigger publishers it's just that they got the capital to spend on marketing but with the current situation it seems that not even the marketing dollars will save them. Which is good. It gives indie devs a bit more of a chance.

Have you considered making short videos to put on tiktok?

Tiktok is not something I used but I did recently see a dev mentioning getting some traction on it.

About the first enemies not doing damage. It's just that it was a bit confusing.because I didn't really know whether they are harmful or not.

I'm be eagerly waiting on your new builds and that demo  you're working on. Oh I have downloaded the android version.Haven't played it yet but will let you know how things go.

Sorry for getting back to you so late.

You're welcome! We both share the same journey so I know and feel your pain.

From what I've played it really is a good game even if it's only a tiny portion. I've also seen some of your older videos and I got excited by the gameplay in it.(I think there were pink sharks in it)

You have a great, fun game on your hands and I just thought you should be a bit more bold about it. I can't wait for your demo to come out.

The animation is great as well and also the whole idea of using the up down motion to gain speed is just great.

here are 3 clips:

Great Game!

  1. The movement feels so damn good.
  2. Love the multiple input layouts you provide
  3. I like the art style.
  4. The music is great, just a bit too loud.
  5. The portal at the end doesn't seem to work
  6. Entering and exiting the tutorial cave causes a weird bug.not sure what's going on there.I've recorded footage and took some screenshots.just let me know if I could send them to you

I was looking for your game for quite some time.I think you should add a link to your itch page on your youtube channel, that's where I initially found your videos and it took me a while to find your game.
