I'm assuming the game is set up for you to eventually fail, not being able to keep up with the rising quota? If that's the case, then I got a little let down. Let me explain.

I felt like I was being spoon-fed the lore, and the mystery each day. Not bad in of itself. I wanted more, but the amount I got each day in relation to the time I had to spend fishing did not feel rewarding. The fishing mechanic is actually really cool, but it gets tiring with how long you need to do it to get another bit of lore. My advice would be to make the days shorter overall.

So... I spend a long time fishing each day dawn till dusk to be able to reach the quota, and to have leftover money for tomorrow's quota, knowing it will be higher. The payoff better be worth it, because I really want to know what happens next in the story! The answer?

On day 9, the characters start repeating lines from day 1. I proceeded to day 10, and the same thing happened (btw Dr. Sturgeon talks as if he were the car lol). And that was super disappointing. At this point I give up.
It seems like the player failing is the expected outcome, why not just slap a ridiculous quota on day 8, give some ridiculous lore reason for it, and let the player die, since there is no point in playing further. Either this, or if the player reaches the expected quota, just end the story in literally any way. All setup, and no payoff, and having spent 2 hours (thereabouts) fishing, sadly I feel like the game wasted my time.

The game is really good, the artstyle is beautiful, and I'm honestly in awe you did it all by yourself (love all the memes references). But man, do I feel disappointed with the experience. I hope you develop it a bit more after the jam, so it has a proper ending, because you have a banger on your hands, it just needs a little more time in the oven.

Definitely a pain point many players felt with the sanity constantly falling, even during dialogues.
It doesn't really make sense it a dialogue-heavy game, and it feels bad if you have to skip dialogues not to go insane.

Prayer does restore some sanity, though it gets less viable, the more bodies you sell, as your sanity goes down faster with each one. Not sure if that was the case for you, but though I'd mention it

I'll be fixing some frustrating parts after the jam, thanks for the feedback, and I'm glad you liked it regardless ^^

Definitely will add some kind of a pause system after the jam!
The fish are programmed to be more erratic, the slower they are, but it could use some tweaking for sure.

Thanks for the feedback, and I'm glad you liked it!

Yes, I did repair it on day 6 I think.

Also, I forgot to mention, I love how you did the mother. Her being that mysterious and monstrous presence was scary enough, but the sound of old tv shows added so much, I loved it <3

I liked it, inspecting my siblings, and seeing the stats on them, instantly perked my ears up! After the first night and seeing the result, I was very excited. The gameplay loop is tense and stressful, and I loved the whole setup.

I couldn't help but feel it was quite repetitive after day 4 or so. Running around the same area, doing the same thing over and over for about 30 minutes was getting difficult.

Nevertheless, very good game!

The visuals look nice!

No sound really hurts the horror aspect. In such a small scope, it would be easy to implement, and would really elevate the experience. After the monster (very creepy btw, gj) came the second time, I started feeling a little stressed, knowing I have to catch more, because it's going to be back. That was really cool!

As per the fishing - the fish moves slow, until hitting the wall, when it speeds up significantly. Don't know whether it is intentional, but it threw me off a bit.

Also, when the bar reaches 100%, and you are supposed to be home, it resets. Some kind of an ending would be nice ^^

Who let bro into the kitchen, cause holyyyyyyy he COOKED!

The game crashes for me on 2 browsers when trying to catch the fish at the bottom. Please fix it, I really want to experience the game is all its glory!

I'll hold out with the review until you do! ^^

Writing a new review, since the fishing bug got patched.

Very enjoyable game!
As previously stated, the CRT looks is awesome, it was definitely creepy and a bit unnerving with the direction you took. I also love the haggling system, which really nicely mimics the back-and-forth of negotiation.

One major problem I've found is I soft-locked myself, so I had to replay the game. I had my pockets full of fish, and I could not fish in the flesh pit because of that. The shopkeep was unavailable, so I was essentially stuck.

Cool atmosphere, I love swamp settings in games, and this has some nice creepyness to it, with the dudes randomly standing around in deep water.

I don't think I can fairly rate the game, since I can't explore it properly.

The fishing needs a second pass, I can often sit for a few minutes at a time without a bite. And when I get one, it's a VERY short speed check. The bite rate is way too low to be enjoyable.

I'm a big fan of the art, the CRT filter makes it look very unique, and I feel like I'm playing something from a different era. It looks promising, but as of now, I can't find it fun to fish and progress :/

I'm glad you like it!

Thanks for the feedback.
I didn't have time to make a restart button, but I figured it wouldn't be a problem, since there is no save states anyway, and you can refresh the page quickly to start again. But it sure would be better if there was one!
There is a glitchy sound cue that grows louder, the lower your sanity is below 50%. But you're not the first person to mention missing it, so an additional visual cue could be helpful.

I might update it after the jam is over! ^^

The fishing mechanic looks really cool.
Seems like the game is far from finished, as there is no way to progress past returning from the fishing.
There are also a few places with broken collision, where you can go out of bounds, like the inside of the bottom-left, or the north-western pathway where you start.

You know what? I was promised a simple game, and got a simple game, I can respect that lmao.

I actually felt a little tense when fishing, the music is creepy and suspenseful, and I was on edge, waiting what will eventually try to get me.

Small, simple, but effective. :)

Nice game! Shame the monsters only roam small predetermined areas, it takes away the scare factor when you can see them all the time, and you know you're safe.

The artstyle is nice, and the idea of how to progress is cool!

Hell yeah, probably the most of the ones I played up till now! <3
Good luck with polishing it!

Keeping up with expenses is extremely easy, so there is no challenge beyond the first day, when you have to figure out the mechanics. There is no story after 7 days, so I'm assuming there is none, which is a shame, since the description suggested some mystery (I even tried hunting for the forbidden fish on both maps, just to see if I could provoke DAC or something).

The base is shaping up really well, and the visuals are nice, but it needs more content.

The game ended when I had souls to judge, and I wanted to do so, when there were no more to catch. :/

Interesting idea, I like stories where your initial opinion on something might change, depending on the information you receive.

Okay, this is rad af (the credits took ages to load, but it was worth it)

I love that everything is hand-drawn. I was having so much fun, which made me disappointed, when I found out, that it's probably not finished. I couldn't borrow the boat, the logging seems useless, and some objects in the house can't be interacted with, despite seeming otherwise. No closure lowkey sucks.

Awesome and funny game, though I gotta say, it's the opposite of horror lmao.

I love the idea, I feel so uncomfortable having to choose my own body part to use as bait. That aspect alone is absolute cinema 10/10. I was cringing (the good kind) doing that, and the gore-y visuals are also very nice!

The fishing gameplay is disappointing, especially after reading the description. I was hoping for it to be maybe a minigame, where if you fail, you have to use another body part, but a success lets you cast for free, using what you caught as bait.
Because as is, you choose a body part, click to cast, click to catch when prompted, and then you repeat the process.
There is no 'balancing' the desire to catch, as you don't have any control beyond choosing a body part.

Also, you can drag the value of the bar at the top-right. I don't think that's intended, but it confused me.

I love the premise, the thought of this scenario alone is quite scary.

But I can't figure out how to get to the car, I keep dying before I get close enough to do anything.
After 4 times rewatching the intro to retry, I gave up. :/

Love the art style! As an unemployed person I really appreciate censoring 'j*b'.

I love the visuals and the vibe, the mechanic of having to focus on a thing, and stop to do something else not to fail is cool! One thing I'd love to see would be some audio feedback on student click.

Really like the implementation, fun little game, but the whistle is incredibly loud compared to the rest!
