Also, I’m noticing changed variables aren’t reflecting in special pages.
Like if I start with VAR test = 1
and
=== specialPage ===
# Special_Page: Page Test
{test}
it will show 1
but if at some point I add one to the stat (I’ve tried both the typical ~alter(test,1) and the base ~test += 1) but it doesn’t change in the special page. This is the same for adding to lists, but I haven’t checked other kinds of variables yet.
Am I missing something?
Immediately, having the background of the game work so seamlessly with the background of your page is extremely cool! “The author respects your opinion if you’re, like, not really into it man” is also a sign of a great start lol Dang I should have used “Are you a girl or a femboy?” in my game. Maybe for a porn parody lmao Very well written, and I love that you can choose to replay scenes at the end, but I really wish there had been choices besides the first one, even if all it did was change some flavor text. Still, it was a great story!
This was so fun! I initially considered using Binski, but I had never used it before and decided not to try to learn a whole new system when I had such a short amount of time to make a game lol I absolutely love the colors and the environment. Each part referenced the others perfectly, and there were so many ways to go through a lot of the rooms, and I love that you could still hang in areas that weren’t relevant to the main quest. Like being able to look out the windows! I am wondering if there’s something about the shoes you find at the beginning that I’m missing. I played through a second time and tried interacting with more things, but no luck, though I did notice in the dressing room there was a knocked over chair and no shoes in one of the sections! So maybe that’s related? Either way, it has such a lovely atmosphere I didn’t mind running around it a second time in the slightest. Love it!
This is really interesting, and I would love to see it expanded on more! The player character not even understanding everything they’re doing, having to learn from trial and error and remembering what their great aunt said definitely hooked me. I really loved the art style and the characters you could interact with, but I didn’t really understand the gift giving mechanic (which maybe I just didn’t try out enough), and I wish there was a little bit more variety in the text, especially for the morning. But considering the limited amount of time this was made in, I really enjoyed it! A neat take on farmsim-esque games.
I’m so happy you found it relatable, especially as a nonbinary player! There were some things that felt very specific to me or people I’ve known rather than more general experiences, so it’s been great to see how many other trans people have been able to relate to it, even if they’re not nonbinary. Thank you so much for this review. It means a lot!
Thank you so much for this thoughtful review! I’m really glad you liked that line about disguises — I initially intended to follow it with a section about the book Alanna: The First Adventure and maybe some other stories in which girls disguise themselves as boys since it’s such a prevalent trope, but it just didn’t fit the flow.
Paying attention to the monsters that give you/point you to chests and such is really key. (Sorry if I’m explaining stuff you already know!)
Spoilers
Like Minotaurs (6) always have a chest in one of the three spaces behind them, the knights Romeo and Juliet (9) always give you a heart scroll, there is always an egg (0) in a space next to the dragon that gives you exp. The mine master (10) (or whatever they're called lol) is always in one of the corners and transforms all mines into exp.If you go through the comments, other people will also have more and better explanations and tips.
