  Every building produces something and needs other resources as ingredients.
  The icon in the right bottom corner shows you what the building needs.
  When you first place a building it needs some resources to build itself.
  For example the more forest tiles are around a sawmill, the faster it produces wood.

Resources are infinite, so there is no limit for the town population.

I'm not sure what do you mean by that? Everything is spawned by the same scirpt in the exact same way, the center point is the player.
