Yes, when the line lands, fish get spooked, that much is intentional- the fish that appear to be moving backwards is due to the renders being flipped. Sometimes they spawn backwards like that giving an odd appearance. There's a LOT of bugs to be ironed out... frankly I'm just glad to have a V1.0 release finally. Bug fixes are next on the docket!
