A first-person smoking simulator built as an ASMR object. Free, browser, no download, works on phones.
You drag the cigarette up to your lips and hold it there. Smoke curls off the tip. The ash grows and stays put until you flick it. Burn it down to the nub, grind it out in the ashtray, take a fresh one from the pack, and light it off a Zippo — which takes a couple of flint strikes and a steady hand holding the flame on the paper.
Two rooms so far: a New York fire escape at midnight, and a 1970s bowling alley. There is a cold beer if you want one.
Sound is most of the experience, so headphones if you have them.
On how it was made, since I always like reading these:
The art is generated paintings, but nothing is drawn on top of them. The hand, the pack, the Zippo and the beer were all subject-lifted out of the painting with Apple's Vision framework and turned into movable sprites, and the background is that same painting with the hand inpainted out. So the cigarette you are dragging around is the one that was originally painted.
Burning it down erases the actual painted paper pixel by pixel. The ash is that same paper recoloured in place rather than a particle effect, which is why it matches the art instead of looking pasted on top of it.
It is canvas 2D in a single HTML file. No engine, no dependencies.
The hardest part by a distance was cutting hands out of generated art without eating the knuckles — that took about five different approaches before one held up.
Happy to answer anything about how it works.
