The Yard is an interesting game. It's fun, but collecting around $700 worth of scrap, it's much harder to find anything. I exited at $1025 after doing 3 loops around the map (: (Prepare yourself if you're going to read all of this, tips for future devs)

So this is what I think the game has going for it:

The jumping feels good, the chase sequences has good music, and I love that it has occasionally dog barking or clock chiming. But I think that the UI could've gotten more love, and the trash bags look a little bit like rocks.

Regarding the actual chase sequences, it's too easy to get away from him due to the way the stamina works. Currently if you drain it all the way, it has a small cooldown before it recharges. But if you don't drain it all the way, it (almost) instantly regenerates. So strategies like B-hopping or just quickly alternating between running and walking are simple ways to easily get away from the scrap monster.

Some suggestions for fixing this issue:

  • Making the stamina have a small cooldown before starting to recharge
  • The enemy gets faster depending on how much money you've currently collected
  • The enemy is more likely to spawn if you have more money collected

I also think that you could have some music for the non-chases and there could been some transitions between the scenes. For example fading to black

Some extra things you could add is maybe a key to look behind you, so you can get a glance of the monster while running from it (Kind of like what Baldi's did), a radar or a metal detector to make finding scraps easier to find, and maybe some cutscenes for when you leave from the monster's perspective or you entering The Yard.

So all in all, I think this was a well made game for only 24 hours, good job :) I'm also open to do any future game testing if you'd like
