In this link, the last sentence is from Dawn of Corruption 0.8.4 Release Notes:

This version is NOT compatible with saves from 0.8.3 but you can restart the game with your Essence, Achievements and Exp from older saves.

did it give you an option to upgrade your save? For me I think It gave me an option to upgrade rather than restart but I could be wrong, let me check.
