If you need a more detailed explanation and you can't find it despite the bookmarks and the ctrl+F search function of your browser, here it is, right at page 28 of the guide: "route/good ending: in the middle of both routes (see above for more details), when you can explore freely, go check on Thane at the tavern, he’ll still be weak, but the important thing is receiving the bloody cloth from him.
