I'm trying to play on my Macbook and it keeps saying "Software needs to be updated contact the developer" and that my computer cannot check it for malicious software

For Mac you need to bypass the warning message and opening anyway through security settings.
Go to System Preferences -> Secutiry & Privacy -> "Open Anway" -> (Type in password)
Or you can right click the application and click run. That way when it says it can't be scanned there will be an open anyway button.
Also check if you need to update your drivers.
