Is the story of the child and a porcupine, perhaps the last moments of the survivor and his wife? :(
This is the only viable interpretation I could find to this VN.

That's a very interesting interpretation. However, at the time of the writing, I didn't think of that metaphorically, haha. But it indeed was created in mind to convey the sense of grief and having peace with it, so you could say it might or might not be part of a projection...
But also yes, no problem with the license!
