It works in battle. But currently, none of the available layers can draw a picture under the battler sprites. If you are looking into drawing pictures indeed, then I will make some changes and implement this feature. It may take a while. I will let you know here.
Otherwise, if you want to put a scenario, like layered battlebacks, I suggest you look into layer plugins, like the Galv Layers.
